Winter 2011 Anime Chart v2

  • All information regarding airing dates is taken from moonphase. If you’ve heard different information about upcoming anime elsewhere, by all means do inform me, but it’s probably wrong.
  • The winter season runs from 1 December to 28 February.
  • No dates for TV, mainly because most of them haven’t been announced yet.
  • The dates listed for OVA’s and Specials is for when the first episode is released. Don’t expect the whole thing to be released on that date. There is frequently long gaps between episode releases for OVA’s
  • No movies. When a movie is released in Japan, the west won’t see fansubs of it until the dvd/blu-day comes out. Your best bet for seeing these movies before the dvd is released is at anime movie screenings, often held at conventions.
  • In what will probably prove an ultimately futile attempt to de-weeabooize anime fandom, I’ve used English names instead of Japanese ones. Generally this isn’t much of a problem since most anime titles are mangled Engrish anyway. ‘Kore wa Zombie desu ka?’ is ‘Is this a Zombie?’, ‘Hourou Musuko’ is ‘Wandering Son’, ‘Mirai Nikki’ is ‘Future Diary’ and ‘Yumekui Merry’ is ‘Merry Dream Eater’. The only ones left untranslated are Mitsudomoe and Kimi ni Todoke because they’re both second seasons and fandom seems to have settled on the Japanese names.
  • If you’re subscribed to my regular feed, you’ll get the charts just as you would get any other post. However if you want the latest charts and don’t want anything else from this blog, you can subscribe to this feed. If you’re not a feed reader user, then you can keep the Charts page bookmarked which will be updated whenever there’s a new chart.
  • V3 is planned for the end of November.

  1. Wow, it didn’t take long to pump out the 2nd season of Mitsudomoe.

I should just stop paying attention to this seasonal announcements, I’m never impressed by the lineup. Fractale looks interesting, but since it’s by A1, I’m sure they’ll find a way to stuff it full of filler.

  2. Artwork for Gosick is really pretty. I wonder if the actual story is as nice though. Fractale and maybe Wandering Son look interesting. Ah, winter, please don’t provide me with a lot to watch. Fall is/was enough.

The “become” in your Beelzebub description should be “becomes”.

  3. Pitiful, thats how to define this season.

    Just Gosick and Starry Sky.

And that’s only because I want to see how Leo is.

    Andit’sanotherwhoreforthelist.

  4. Is This a Zombie?

Am I going to watch that?

    YES.

Future Diary is a manga I have been dying to read because it looks awesome. I’ve staved it off, but with an OVA coming out that might come to an end.

  5. Nyarlko? Awesome! I think I’m the only person out here that gives a damn about it, though, since I’m pretty sure I’m the only blogger that watched and reviewed the OAV. Ia! Ia! Moe Fhtagn!

  6. The general idea seems to be = if you thought the last season was bad then wait until you see the next chart and realize the last one wasn’t that bad. I’ll have to wait for the trailers to get me interested.

“Now she stars in her own anime” Really, Xebec?

  7. Hm, I think I’ll give Fractale, Wandering Son, Gosick, Starry Sky and Wolverine a try. I have highest hopes for Wandering Son and I want Gosick to do be awesome so I can feel justified in watching it for the artwork. Watching Wolverine out of loyalty to Marvel, even though I’m getting tired of Wolvy these days. (Seriously, Marvel. You DO realize that you have other characters, right?) Will probably watch at least the first episode of the others, just in case one of them is secretly amazing.

I heard the Supernatural anime is supposed to come out in January and I’m looking forward to that. It actually sounds better than the live-action show. (It’s my guilty pleasure.)

  8. >de-weeabooize anime fandom, I’ve used English names instead of Japanese ones.
    Σ(;`Д´)<オ、オマエエエエェェェェエェェエ!
    何でこんな事…泣いてるぞ!うぅっ

    『レイトン教授 VS 逆転裁判』を3DSって…

      1. Trudat.

But Beelzebub does received excellent rankings, right up with One Piece, Naruto, Bleach, Reborn, Nurarihyon no Mago, Toriko, and (now) Bakuman.

Makes me laugh every week. shrug

  9. looks like this is my season. ironic.

definitely watching kimi ni todoke even though i know it’s going to frustratingly slow and rage-worthy like the manga. cant help my hope that the anime will magically pick up the pace somehow ;/

planning on checking out fractale if i remember and i want to see hourou musuko (sorry, the manga refers to it that way and i already dont remember the translation) if i can catch up with the manga before it airs.

  10. First impressions: God please NOOOO.
Second impressions : Some things look decent, don’t judge until you watch it.
Anticipation? not much really. But we will see, we will see.

  11. Feeling a bit meh about the upcoming season at the moment. Aside from the sequels, I’ll be watching Beelzebub (shounen – pretty obvious I’d go for that one especially since I’m following the manga) and Gosick (Bones + detectives = yes please).

OVAs look more interesting than the TV series……

  12. Yay for Kimi 2!
I have a bad habit of going off the deep end when a manga I like gets adapted, so I better keep this short.
I don’t know much about the people animating it ( I know very little about animation studios in general), but the studio had better not mess up on Beelzebub. All they need to do, is do Oga’s character justice, if they can do that, then Beelzebub should be good.

  13. I really hate saying this, because it seems like everyone just raves these days about how “anime isn’t like it used to be!”… but this looks like a pretty thin season. I’m wicked excited for Hourou Musuko, though, and Koisento at the very least inspires curiosity on my part, so I guess I’m alright with it not being a particularly solid season.

  14. I appreciate your efforts to de-weeabooize stuff, but I’d suggest including the Japanese names somewhere because it’d be far more useful for looking stuff up on google.

  15. Supernatural is going to be 22eps and afaik is going to be on a weekly basis. No reason to leave it in the OVA section like that.

On the note of the only other person who mentioned it, it’s highly doubtful it’s going to be “Better than” the live action version because it’s going to be attempting to tell the first two season’s story in < 1/4 of the amount of time. It's either going to be rushed as hell or cut most of the stuff that makes supernatural great. Still going to be amazing though.

  16. New “Precure” series will come out probably in February.
Also “Freezing” will come in January.

I’m looking forward the most to the Cardfight!! Vanguard.

  17. Since I’ve made this chart, they’ve announced Freezing, Precure, Magical Madoka and something else I’ve forgotten. However to update the chart everytime there’s a new anime announced would be a massive pain. So from now on, I’ll have a new chart out on the 27th of each month

  18. waiting for the starry skies, gosick, fractale, and wandering son. future diary is a must.

i’ll also give supernatural a try. if it’s good i’ll watch it, if phail i’ll just keep watching it and laugh at it
