As we did for our top 30, the various members of The Cart Driver editorial team came together on skype to discuss the top anime of 2012, along with a bunch of various other highly coveted awards. This podcast is more a view of the behind the scenes proceedings into our thought processes when doling out the awards. Don’t worry, it’s not as long as that 4+ hour marathon for the top 30, since the winner for this was pretty obvious from the start. Discussing the strangest fetish was the real area of intense debate.
The written version will go up tomorrow.

Thank you for doing another one of these.
It’s the only anime podcast that I’ve found that I can actually stand listening to.
I hope you’ll do more in the future.
The only anime podcast you can stand listening to? Which ones have you tried that makes you say that? There’s still a lot wrong with this podcast, but most of the problems are improved by experience, and better microphones.
How dare you sir/ma’am/whatever. Have at thee!
These are more test runs rather than an actual podcast, so don’t expect any regularity. Maybe sometime in the future when I’ve decided on a format
Here’s my list that I sent to APR, it’s different:
1. Aquarion Evol (no contest)
2. AKB0048
3. Chihayafuru
4. Nisemonogatari
5. Natsume Yuujin-cho Shi
6. Tantei Opera Milky Holmes 2
7. Saki: Achiga-hen – Episode of Side A
8. Jormungand
9. Fate Zero
10. Chuunibyou demo Koi ga Shitai
I might actually switch Chihaya and AKB given a little more thought to it. I didn’t finish a lot of shows that would rightly have taken up my 9 and 10th slots. You can think of F/Z and Chuu2 as pity fucks.
Shows I love that are continuing: Gintama (when some new eps hit), HxH, Fairy Tail, Toriko, Jojo.
Show I can’t see through the hype surrounding but might possibly love: Girls Und Panzer
Shows I really like that are continuing: Psycho-Pass, Shin Sekai Yori.
Shows that I can stand continuing to watch, barely: Zetsuen no Tempest, Bakuman.
AKB0048 and Milky Holmes are shows that I will hopefully watch in 2013!
Gosh, someone still watching Bakuman. I lasted 3 eps into the second season until they did that “it’s all the women’s fault for revealing she was feeling uncertain about a gravure shoot” and I was all NOPE
I think at this point it is pretty much me, Chii, and Ghostlightning that are still watching it. Misogyny be damned.
Best Opening was the Rinne No Lagrange Op. I say this because it’s a pretty good song, but the animation with it is fantastic.
I also like Space Bro’s second ED. The ED that has had the greatest impact on my life is the Kill Me Baby ED.
Weirdest fetish was Sankarea, the toothbrush stuff actually worked, and so wasn’t too weird.
I’m surprised Shinsekai Yori didn’t get mentioned in the best 2012/2013 anime, I personally prefer it to JoJo.
Here’s my top 6 anime of the year, (because of the 59 shows I have watched, I’ve only given 6 of them a 7 or above, if only we could include this season).
6)Kuroko no Basket
5)Hyouka
4)Chihayafuru
3)Kokoro Connect
2)Girls Und Panzer
1)Danshi Koukousei no Nichijou
Actually, Symphogear gets an honourary 8th place.
Good podcast though.
For some reason I put Symphogear at 8th rather than 7th, meh, it’s Symphogear, why should it convene to logic?
Just worked out that my average rating for this year was 4.86, which isn’t brilliant, however it looks like 2013 is off to a good start with PP, JoJo and SY.
I really liked the Lagrange OP, but not liking the show means I’m never particularly pushed about holding it up as best of the year. Unless it has dancing, which is where Kill Me Baby came in
Wait…so you won’t give any award to a series you didn’t enjoy even if could legitimately win the award for the one thing it did right? That’s so completely different from my own judgement scheme that I’m not sure how I would continue liking anime if I didn’t at least give credit where credit was due.
Nah, this is specifically for OP/EDs. When I don’t like a show, it tends to sour my opinion on the song because why I like a song is often tied strongly to my feelings of the show itself
Space Bros second ED? You mean Kokuhaku (Confession) by Angela Aki? God, that was one of my favorite ED of the year. I have hard time decide between Jintai, Nichibros, and Space Bros ED which one is best of all three. Jintai ED have unique feeling, while Nichibros ED is just pure hilarious and stupid (Which is the reason why I like it), and Space Bros 2nd ED is just amazing. In the end, I choose Jintai in the end though.
If JoJo was in though, it would be no contest. Roundabout is just….I can’t express it, especially after episode 6.
Also Scamp, have you made a post about your favorite Anime ED? Cause I want to see Trust Me in that list.
JOJO BEST EVERYTHING
Actually not really. I need to get into animu a bit more but I guess I never really find time to commit for it. There are some shows that looked kinda interesting so maybe the first thing to do would be to look them up.
Oh, happy new year and such.
