A new Steins;Gate post has arrived! Tuturu~
…oh wait, bad time for that I guess.
The curse of episodic blogging a series is you start forming your potential post while you’re watch the episode. Which is a pretty stupid thing to do when the final moments of the episode change what will be the entire focus of your pre-planned post. For example, I was planning to use the majority of this post to explain why I didn’t think Mayuri was a good character. In a show with such mulit-faceted characters like Okabe and Kurisu, and how their interactions bring out the various sides of either character, and how much they are clearly made for each other, Mayuri sticks out like a poorly developed thumb.
There’s no depth to her character. She only has one side, that being her happy go lucky doofus side. I’ve never liked that sort of character, from Kobato to Nessa to…well, pretty much half the characters ever voiced by Hanazawa Kana. You can use a one-sided character well if you place them in various scenarios to see how that single-dimensioned character will react. But Steins;Gate doesn’t use Mayuri like that. She simply goofs around in the background, acting as the naive innocent kid that drags Kyouma and Kurisu back to earth. She’s a framing device for other characters, rather than a character in her own right.
However I can’t talk about that now, seeing as what happened.
…oh wait, kind of late for that.
That’s right. Mayuri is dead! No more Mayushi in this anime. No more Hanazawa Kana voiced moeblobs who cosplay as maid catgirls with blonde hair. The Day the Tuturu Died. No Tuturu for Old Men. The Silence of the Tuturu. To Kill a Tuturu. Requiem for a Tuturu. Grave of the Tuturus. She’s gone forever. Shot in the head. With a gun. That fired a bullet. In her friggen head. People don’t survive that (unless your name is Johann Liebert). Your ship has been burned. Your glorified framing device has left the scene. Never again can Okabe furtively glance at her to see if she’s happy. Never again can he fret over her happiness like a panicked father worrying whether his daughter is being bullied at school.
She was the figurative dam holding back the over exuberance of the scientists. She was the one reeling in Kyouma’s human side, preventing his Mad Scientist projected persona to become his full reality. She was the one grounding Kurisu in the real world, preventing her from becoming too wrapped up in her studies and her angst. She was the only female that would actually talk to Daru, although lol who cares about Daru. Without her, things can only get worse. Events will spiral further out of control. The lab will break apart and start attacking each other. The ‘tuturu’ was a call of peace, but it has been silenced. That’s because she’s dead. Dead I say. DEEEAAAAD!!!
The rest of the episode? Yeah, stuff happened.
Mayushi is dead! Silent girl with the big boobs dressed up in a figure hugging leather suit and shot her. Why did she shoot Mayushi? I don’t know, but it doesn’t matter for the deed has already been done. The deed being that Mayushi was shot in the head and is now ddeeeeaaaad!
…not that I think she’ll remain dead or anything. Stuff can be reversed in Steins;Gate by simply sending a message back to the past. A simple D-Mail telling them to get out of the lab, or to get rid of the computer connected to CERN, is all they need to prevent Mayushi from getting shot. But how long will take? We could be until the very end of the series without Mayushi.
BECAUSE SHE IS DEAD
