Spring 2010 sucks…if you’re a moefag!

Chartfags amazing chart came out recently and so you get the interwebs commenting on the upcoming season across the board. Now usually these conversations fill me with rage because how dismissive people can get just because the promo picture contains a bishojo and fall down the usual path of proclaiming anime to be heading downhill and so on. But instant first glance at this chart shows an interesting development. There is a rather unusual small amount of moe. And boy are the forums a joy to read now!

To paraphrase what about half the people are saying (not that half is a true representation of anime fandom, it’s just the haters are always more vocal)

I’ll watch Angel Beats, (and K-ON S2 obviously) and that’s it. Oh, and Black Rock Shooter but it’s only a bloody OVA. This season sucks

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA *gasp* HAHAHAHAHAHAHA

This is fucking glorious! We all thought we’d never see the end of this moefaggery when K-ON season 2 was announced up comes the season it airs in and it looks rather lonely as the only half-decent moe show out there. Plus, will these moefags really be pleased with seeing what will almost certainly be the exact same material all over again? Serious moe, all they have is Angel Beats. No 4–5 eroge adaptations per season. No crap like 11eyes and Ookami Kakushi, oh definitely not. And to make the whole thing even more glorious, Black Rock Shooter, the show vocaloidfags had gotten all hyped up over, is just an OVA. It’s going to be nothing more than a glorified music video.

As for me? Night Raid, Ironman, Yojohan, Arakawa, Rainbow, Five Leaves, Giant Killing, Hetalia, the list goes on. I don’t normally hate on moefags. On the 1–10 scale of moe-hating, where 1 is ‘moe? meh, uninterested’ and 10 is ‘moe is the cancer that is killing the industry rawr rawr rawr’, I’d rank about a 4, but this is just too hilarious a chance to pass up. The moefags are staring at the chart is disappointment while the rest of us are pretty pleased for a change. So sorry if you’re a moefag…in fact, I’m not sorry. You had your days in paradise. Now move on over and give the rest of us a turn at the wheel.

    I am glad I do not hang around wherever you got that quote from, as funny as it is.

    It’s going to be nothing more than a glorified music video.

    As much as it will probably be so, I…hope not. ;_; Hearing BRS playing over and over again will make my head hurt.

    is it wrong of the only stuff I’m looking foward too is Arakawa under the Bridge, Hetalia 3, BRS, And… B Gata H Kei?

    I must have some sick pleasure for bad fanservice…

  3. Posted February 11, 2010 at 3:06 pm | Permalink

    It’s quite a good season, too many pick-upables.

    And actually, I think Angel Beats alone will make the moe of this season worthwhile. They also forgot the next Da Capo season featuring one of Japan’s favorite visnov heroines; Working! which is probably going to have some order of slice-of-life moe; and I know JCStaff is planning to accentuate Kaichou’s MAIDS a bit to draw in more male viewers; donno if the eechi series count.

    Your argument makes it hard to determine whether you dislike the moelovers or antimoe faction more =9

    From the PV of Kaichou, I think JC Staff is adapting the manga quite closely.
    Maybe it’s just me.

    @Kiseki

    The quote is just a paraphrased version of what their saying, although it would be funny to see someone actually say that

    For Maid-sama, I don’t know the manga myself so I was just going off what the manga fans were saying. Plus it looked a lot different from your standard shojo anime, which threw me off a bit. We’ll see I guess

    @luffyluffy

    Well I’ll write up a proper season preview soon (currently writing it actually) but you should keep an eye on Senko no Night Raid for sure. Oh, and Uragi wa Boku.. is a BL anime

    @Aorii

    Thing about Working is that it’s hard to work up enthusiasm for those type of shows because you never know how good they’ll be until they come out. As much as I’m sure they’d like to be, A-1 still aren’t big enough to have a devoted fanbase who get excited for their upcoming anime.

    Thing with moefags is it’s just a difference in taste. Not much to hate there. With the antimoe, they ignore the other picks of the season because there’s moe anime and wallow in those annoyingly average mecha series of the past centuary. So yeah, I dislike the antimoe faction more. I think I wrote a post about it actually.… aha, there ya go~

    yeah, I’m only going to be watching Angel Beats and K-ON S2 this season. Nothing else looks good ;_;

  7. Posted February 11, 2010 at 5:17 pm | Permalink

    @Kiseki It took Kaichou 46 chapters to get to the point. I hope that doesn’t translate to 11~12 episodes before Usui finally opens up. Or… we might just end up with another Special As.

    @Scamp: Yeah that post is the reason I asked. This post is decidedly more anti-moe than anti-anti-moe— what the hell am I saying <_<.

  8. Posted February 11, 2010 at 5:20 pm | Permalink

    Just at first glance, the spring season looks pretty good to me. Moe is but one thing I enjoy, so I don’t really care about a relative lack of it in the upcoming season. (Plus, I am skipping season two of K-On! out of principle, since the second half of the show was so lame.)

  9. Posted February 11, 2010 at 6:33 pm | Permalink

    Hmmm…Not bad, not bad at all. Here’s the stuff I’m willing to try out for at least a couple episodes: Senkou no Night Raid, Iron Man, Heroman, Angel Beats, Hetalia (duh), Hakouki: Shinsengumi Kitan, Uragiri wa Boku no Namae wo Shite Iru, K-ON! season 2 (I will hate myself for this, but I survived the first season…) From this list, I believe that I will keep all but two and then pick up 5 more wild cards, as I usually do every season. XD;;

    On the OVA side of things there’s the obvious Black Rock Shooter and also Tales of Symphonia: Tethe’alla Chapter. The latter mostly because I have to watch it about 4–5 times anyways thanks to timing duties for subbing.

    i’m super glad there seems to be a lot of “darker” stuff airing in spring :D (yay yaoi XD)

    only think i’m not so thrilled about is the sports and moe ;) “almost” everyone is going to be gushing about k-on in their blogs it’s going to be super annoying imo… I can’t wait to find out what the sleeper hit is going to be among everyone though. This I have come to love.

    I will probably be the only one to say this as well.… yay koihime :P

    @neko

    HAHAHAHAHA

    @Aorii

    Again to use a sports analogy, it’s like laughing at fans of the opposing team when they’re not doing well. You get more frustrated at your own fans for bashing your own team but it’s more fun to laugh when the opposing team isn’t doing well.

    @Shinmaru

    I must admit, I do think the season isn’t that amazing and it lacks a all-encompasing hit like Durarara or Eden, but laughing at moe fans is fun

    @miken-chan

    My almighty season preview is in the pipeline so I’ll express my feelings on the season then

    @chii

    I think the K-ON fans might be considerably quieter this time round, going down the path of ‘well I like it so screw you’. There won’t be the thought that this is the biggest hit of the season anymore, thank fuck

    Wait, I lied. Next season, I’m watching Hetalia, B Gata H Kei, Angel Beats, BRS, Arakawa under the Bridge, Heroman, might check out Gundam Unicorn, but I honestly find the Gundam series to be so dry.…..

    Where’s Senko no Night Raid? And as for the BL… I dont really like it thjat much~ *shot* The two guys have to be hot, or it’s no dice~ (Meet reason number 1 why my otp is GermanyxAnyone XDD)

  14. Posted February 11, 2010 at 9:44 pm | Permalink

    This season looks great! I’m very excited, what with two J.C. Staff shows, and many other titles.

    People are still complaining there’s too much moe…I’m laughing my head off at that.

  15. Posted February 11, 2010 at 10:44 pm | Permalink

    I like moe in reasonably sized doses, but in 2009 in just got way too much. 2010 has, so far, been decent in comparison and the hope is that we can have a year like 2006 or 2007 again. 2006 was good because people were taking moe and doing really creative things with it, while 2007 just had a lot of really good titles that weren’t moe at all.

    Oh yeah, and season previews… what a pointless waste of time. I’ll wait to hear opinions from people who have actually seen the shows they’re talking about…

  16. Posted February 11, 2010 at 11:05 pm | Permalink

    I’m not a moe fag, and I don’t even know what I want to watch yet…I think that pre-season looks into things when you don’t have shows that you can basically determine the purpose of (AKA “moe” oriented shows), is a lot different than when you do have those shows. Because a serious show is a lot harder to do well than a less serious show, in some ways, I think, and it’s harder to predict with them.

    That being said, I don’t know what I want to watch beyond K-on! season two and, possible, Working!, which sounds like it could either be good or stupid.
    I’ll wait for the reviews. ;)

  17. Posted February 12, 2010 at 12:43 am | Permalink

    There’s a lot of shit out there, like K-On and kiss x sis, I also feel im going to end up picking up and maybe dropping that one about the virgin. But Ironman is what interests me most.

  18. Posted February 12, 2010 at 1:41 am | Permalink

    @Aorii I was thinking that it might have 52 episodes (I’ve been used to slow manga and slow anime lately)…and Usui being who he is became quite obvious a long time ago.

    NOOOOOOOOOO NOT SPECIAL A!;lmntrk;jmgtkldfnxpzok;l *spazzspazz*

    What is with all these adaptions of Romance of the Three Kingdoms? There are three for Spring, and wasn’t there another from…Fall or something?

  19. Posted February 12, 2010 at 3:24 am | Permalink

    Ugh, I can’t tell what’s what from these charts anymore… wow, B Gata H Kei has quite a risque premise… actually, I’ve started to read this chart more for the studios. Doesn’t seem like there’s anything really mind blowing though. Too much Stan Lee moe.

    are you sure Angel Beats moe ?
    the preview sound like dark :-(
    school afterlife, war against god
    if it moe, i will be happier

    @luffyluffy

    Night Raid is the very first anime on the list and I think it’s the show that has the best chance of being a BIG hit across genres

    @kadian1364

    BTW, I noticed you’ve semi-joined the blogscene over at Nihon Review. Looking forward to seeing your first post at Behind the NR

    @Janette

    Total opposite, they’re finally NOT saying there’s not much moe this season. Total swap around

    @Sorrow-kun

    And I think season previews are the single greatest things anime blogs produce. So hey, each to their own~

    @mefloraine

    Imma gonna watch EVERYTHING!!!!

    (except maybe kiss x sis…)

    @Glo

    Ironman looks pretty cool eh. Animated by Madhouse and doesn’t afraid of anything

    @Kiseki

    I thought people quite liked Special A.…

    @RP

    Studios > Synopsis. Always. Even so, even if Bones are producing Heroman this season, I just can’t take it seriously

    @Philip

    Serious moe vs fluffy moe. Serious is usually VN adaptations and fluffy is 4-koma and light novels

  22. Posted February 12, 2010 at 1:51 pm | Permalink

    I do, but then Special A dragged on for too long. »; The manga should be 20+ (low estimate) chapters shorter.
    As for the anime, I thought people said it sucked [compared to the manga?].
    I don’t know. orz

    Japan produce many ecchi and moe films this day. Pretty sucks… ==
    And why they making iron man into an anime, i can’t imagine…
    Never expected of that one..

    But some good things come up (yay~), Black rock shooter, Hetalia 3, also Angel Beats~

  25. Posted February 13, 2010 at 7:35 am | Permalink

    im vaguely interested in heroman and ironman, maybe a few other titles too. we’ll see.

    a few months ago i would have been excited for kaichou wa maid-sama.…but after reading the manga for awhile.….;/ the maid action is pretty cute, but after awhile they forget about the maid part some and focus on misaki and that creepy-as-hell bishounen. blah. i might watch the butler arc if they animate that. MAYBE.
