I don’t really have anything to add to that. You’re perfectly right so I guess the most we can do is hope they really are building up to something or at least tie the threads together

I think it’s just that I’m bored by the standard fallback of ‘oh, nuc­lear war caused it’ and want something a bit more imaginative

In the past, nuclear war was always an imminent threat, so precautions were placed. The “black boxes” were used to prevent and detect the presence of high concentrate radiation and bio-weapons” (why no-mans land seemingly ends at civilization and the boxes) but to no avail as bombs throughout the world were set off inside of these areas, containing the radiation. Now that the boxes are failing, chances of harmful radiation could be possible. Apparently, trenches were installed to fight off any enemies trying to finish off the city to no avail. The “Capital” was one such place that survived the bombs because, A. We set them off, or B. We were allied or lucky with the ones who set them off. Either way, it poses no threat to them now, but if the radiation has crept in or dispersed, the country on the other side of no mans land might retaliate one day.

Or…

We simply took on our enemies in trench warfare and millions were killed like in WW2 because we misused technology. Thats my two yen. Ja ne!

Sora no Woto almost seems to make it up as it goes, hinting at a war torn past and mishmashes familiar cultures and super-future tech and, hey look at these girls dressed up as mobsters! It looked for a little bit like the overarching theme was Kanata practicing bugling and discovering the power of music, hope, and love in desolate times, but the music bit seems to have dropped off as of late.

Again, I don’t want to make indictments of a series not halfway done, but I want to see a clearer direction of where the story is going.

I don’t want everything explained (like those when Geass doesn’t explain something yell PLOT HOLE) but I at least want something big to happen before the end. Speculating is one of the reasons I like Haibane and it barely revealed anything. So long as something happens before the end, I’ll probably be happy.

If all five survive, it may leave me underwhelmed, but I’ll be relieved they made it out alright.

I’m not sure at this stage whether I want it to pull its punches. If it does I can’t help feel I’d be left underwhelmed by the series as a whole.

I wouldn’t be so sure. I definately still think there’s a chance that we might be in for a blow to one of the characters. It all depends whether they do go into any sort of action/violent scenes before the end

I still think people are too quick to place the creator of these attacks to biological weaponry. There has yet to be a single reference to them in the show itself.

As for them fighting back, I think it depends hugely on what attacks them. If they are together, I do agree that they would be helped hugely by Felicia and Rio’s leadership, but facing something creepy like cloaked weaponry I wouldn’t place my bets on them. That said, I seriously doubt we’ll see a nice boat ending.

I think the radar stations were working correctly (although god only know how they use them). But the ghost is an interesting theory…urgh, I just remembered the picture of that hand. That’s a creepy picture…

Wild guess indeed but well grounded in logic. I’m starting to feel the thrill of suspense for this series

What if that “ghost” that was introduced a few episodes ago was a potential example of cloaking technology at work? And that it could have been a surveillance/reconnaissance unit of some sort?

and maybe those advanced structures introduced during the field trip episode help detect against cloaking like a sort of RADAR station? Refresh my memory, they weren’t all working correct? And nobody really know what they’re all about anyway right?

I’m going into wild mass guessing territory here…
