There were several people up in arms over the prospect of an anime based around 1930 China/Japan ‘relations’ at at how badly the Japanese would skew history. Well my history is pretty hazy around that area but, and correct me if I’m wrong, I believe there were no teleporting spies in that era. Yup, we are looking at an alternate past. How ‘alternate’ I have no idea but Senko no Night Raid has decided to bypass the possible shitstorm they would have gotten altering the past to put Japan into a better light by…altering the past? Wait a second, they’re mutilating history rawr rawr rawr!
Sarcasm aside, I’m finding it difficult to say a lot about this episode. It’s probably more down to feeling jaded writing so many first impressions posts than the actual episode itself but it did keep its cards very close to its chest. I found it impossible to keep up with the conversations and different sides in this war. When you’re given names but no faces to put these names on its very confusing indeed. It certainly didn’t help when the two started that false laughter. Somehow that managed to clear my mind of everything they just said better than a litre of vodka. The amnesia inducing ability of their joint laughter was scarilly efficient.
So I’m finding it difficult to say a whole lot about this show, at least for another episode or two. It’s just got nothing to latch onto. In fact, my favourite part of the episode was the little moe slip the girl made when she jumped out of the tree. Clearly my mind was not in the right state to enjoy this episode to its fullest extent when I’m being entertained by that more than the actual action scenes.
