I have to wonder about the person who decided that Sengoku Collection would be a great idea to turn into an anime. Get it guys, it’s about Oda Nobunaga and the Sengoku Era and all that, except they get put into the modern era! Phwoar, how about that, but it gets better. Because Oda Nobunaga is…wait for it…a hot teenage girl!
Quick note to anyone who has never watched any Lupin III before: This is a Lupin III origin story. You need no experience with the rest of the franchise to watch this. Besides, this was rather different from your typical Lupin III fare.
Oh yes, Future Diary. Refusing to end when all the other anime do, clawing for my attention by making even crazier stuff happen. And this being Future Diary, that’s a pretty high barrier to crazy it needed to overcome, but it certainly managed it, albeit through the usual method of TIME TRAVEL!
I read a bit of the Zetman manga beforehand, so I had an idea what to expect coming into the anime. That said, the anime did surprise me. I wasn’t really into the manga because it was an American superhero comic book in everything but nationality. The anime on the other hand, I disliked because it was actively bad.

I’m not going to pretend to be the guru when it comes to the history of anime, but I’ve absorbed enough in my life to know which ones are significant. It seems to me that, in the early 80’s, the shounen genre split into two. The first was that of Fist of the North Star, the hyper masculine heads exploded fest. The second went down the Saint Seiya path, homoerotic tension between beautiful angsty men in squeal inducing costumes. Being the newbie that I am (relatively speaking), I haven’t experienced either of these two grandfathers of shounen, but thankfully I don’t need to, and neither do you, because Saint Seiya has gotten the reboot.
This first episode reminded me of another anime I’ve seen. Now if I could only put my finger on it…ah yes, I remember now! It’s like all the things Daily Lives of Highschool Boys mocks in every single episode!
