Occult Academy episode 9

I could make this post entirely out of Maya expression pictures and I’m sure most of you would go home happy. That seems to be what most people are watching this show for by this stage.

First, for easilly the most awesome part of the episode. Even more awesome than Maya expressions and anything JK and his multi-purpose dowsing rods could muster. A Ouija Board Guitar! Seriously, this has to be one of the most awesome occult contraptions ever. Summon the spirits of famous dead rock stars by playing their songs. Sounds bloody fantastic to me, and as a bonus they could help improve your guitar playing skills. Seriously, I’ve got to get myself one of these.

This episode felt quite a departure from previous ridiculous outings with the Occult Academy crew. It was more serious, trying to take a tone similar to something like Natsume Yuujinchou. To be honest, I didn’t think it was particularly successful at doing so. Perhaps it was the change in tone, although that’s something we should really be used to by this stage. What you really have to question is why, with only 4 episodes left to go, are they dealing with some random ghost child? What on earth happened to this immenant alien invasion anyway? Surely this kid has something to do with it, right? Well, and this might be a long shot, but I have a theory!

The kid is an alien. More specifically, she’s the first of their advance fleet, sent down to rondevou with the alien agents on earth. A bit of  a crazy theory I’m sure you’ll agree. However I have evidence to back this up. This most certainly isn’t just me making shit up for every single episodic post because the lack of a coherent plot leaves me with very little to talk about asides from Maya’s bountiful facial expressions and her one-piece, figure hugging, zettai ryouki outfit. Nope, these are honest theories.

First case of evidence is the vice-principal. She summoned this alien herself, using her body as a medium. We’ve known that there was something up with her for a long time and I’ve long had the belief that she’s in league with the aliens. Well this episode confirms that beyond doubt. Remember the way she asked the students who to summon? Simply a ruse to throw them off the scent. She had no intention of summoning the principal or anyone they suggested. She was always going to summon that kid. The alien that is the very first of the advance fleet to take over the earth.

The second piece of evidence goes against some of the earlier stuff I’ve been saying about Mikaze. I’m going back to my old theory that she’s in league with the aliens. It does make much more sense if you look at it like that. She takes on the appearance of his ideal girl and calling the kid on tv by the name only his mother knows. All clear signs that Fumiaki’s mind was probed and she was the perfect girl formed from that. Her task has simply been to keep close to Fumiaki and to distract him from finding either the Nostradamus Key or anything else regarding the aliens. Hence why she kept pulling him away from meeting up with the kid. The aliens are quite afraid of that magic phone of his. I suppose the kid could be the Nostradamus Key, it’s not beyond belief. But even if she wasn’t, even if she does get photographed, Fumiaki will also see that the kid is alive and all alien-like in the future as well. Notice how he also has never taken a picture of Mikaze? That’s because she’s an alien. An eeeevil alien.

My third and final piece of evidence is a bit of a strange one. Now we know aliens can probe people’s minds, hence why they picked the story of an already dead girl to throw the Occult Academy crew off their trail (remember there is no such thing as the Occult. Only alien activity). However there’s a limited amount they can do to TK because he’s an alien. He’s one of them, working alongside the human Smile as one of the scouting teams for the planet earth. But, as I’ve said in earlier posts, it’s clear that they’re no longer in contact with TK and don’t trust him anymore, thinking he’ll side with the humans (as we could see from his future version in the magic phone). Hence, while the kid still met up with these two as was originally planned, he wasn’t debriefed that JK was no longer considered an ally until she realised that they had limited his visual capacities to not see her.

JK knows something is up. His dowsing rods are telling him something is up here but he can’t quite piece two and two together. He remembered the plan about faking the dead girl story but now can’t quite understand what’s going on.

Plus his emotions are confused. Does he want to side with his kind on their glorious and righteous capturing of the planet earth and turning it into one of their many colonies?

Or does he want to side with the humans that he’s grown to love. His, dare he call them, friends? Will he leave them now and never live to see the day his forbidden crush on Smile is realised?

You have to realise what’s going on here TK. The aliens are betraying you. You can defy your fate and achieve glory, but you must do so soon…

Before you realise it’s too late

Maybe he believes he is in Japan and so you see him sleeping in the middle of the day, and watching anime at 2 am when they are airing :P

I’ve been slowing down my posting recently. Hrrmm, gotta start correcting that.

IDK when Occult Academy comes out in Japan but it’s around 8 or 9 at night when it’s released on Crunchyroll. Remember, I’m Irish, so no middle of the night in Japan for me ;)

Mmm, I liked TKs face in that shot, so funny, the rest I must say I’m watching this for the sake of finishing the series, it has become so random that I lost my interest.

By the looks of this they will either rush the plot to save the planet or they just won’t save it at all.

Type ‘Gravatar’ into google, click on the first link and follow the instructions. It’s incredibly easy and you don’t need to touch the site once you’ve got it set up

Trying to work out what mecha that is. First thought was an EVA one but I don’t remember them ever making that face. Got the same upper body build though.

        Care to enlighten me?

Hehe I guess the blurring makes it hard to get it. It’s the Eva 02. I made it like this http://i162.photobucket.com/albums/t263/arturito240/EvaAvatar.jpg originally to use in a forum where those dimensions where right, but well, most of the internet avatars are square, so I had to crop it.

That one is a bit more clear.

And yes Asuka FTW, I also use this as my sign, whenever I’m not too lazy to put it ^^

I’ve been wondering about how they’re going to end this series given that we’re on the ninth episode and there are a total of 13.

That said, I think the Mikaze theory is probably what they’re planning for. We already know the Vice Principal has something to do with Maya’s father’s death, and in the Intro we see the two together.

At the same time, I do kinda wish we HAD some lingering progress in this series on the actual central plot point, the Nostradamos Key. I

I think the fact that there’s different directors for every episode or two has seriously killed any chance of a cohesive plot for this series XD

I find it hard to believe Mikaze and the VP are working together, at least not knowingly. Otherwise they wouldn’t be at ends in the romance front. But while love knows no boundries, it also knows no allies.

Hmmm, that was rather poetic Scamp. I gotta remember that one

You know I think your crazy theories would make a much more interesting series finale than whatever the creators have planned. At this stage I think its highly unlikely we’re going to get back to the whole alien invasion aspect.…..which makes me wonder just what the point of introducing it was! The series could have functioned just as well as an episodic or mini-arc based show centred on the Occult. Time travellers, espers and the End of the World now feels superfluvious.

Totally agree. It was in this episode I found myself thinking that this anime had a bit of Natsume Yuujinchou to it. Little tales with a sorta central point to it all. Would have been nice if they had actually focused on being Scooby Doo instead of Apocalypse Anime No.532

I too found the Ouija Board Guitar pretty freaking awesome. Would love to see what JK would do with it if he was allowed to have a go on it. And if the gorgeous little is indeed an alien, then I wana meet more of them. The grown up, male kind. :D

You mean you aren’t already happy with the handsome chunk of meat that is Smile?

      • Posted September 6, 2010 at 3:39 pm | Permalink

You can never have too many handsome chunks of meat! Though, I figure Smile is more Ami’s type (er, when she’s a bit older), seeing as how she already knows what turns him/ his arse-kicking mode on.

However, as I’ve said before, I certainly wouldn’t turn away a man with such a big spanner, and one who knows how to use it.
