Occult Academy episode 10

Now you know the way Occult Academy has this way of almost but not quite showing upskirt shots with Maya. We’re shown her crossing her legs at just the right angle so we get plenty of luscious Maya thigh but no underwear. Well, actually we do. In the opening. You guys all thought that was a shadow? Of course it isn’t, that’s Maya’s black underwear!

Clearing up the episode involving the snow ghost kid. I’m not sure about you lot, but there was something so annoyingly idealised about the whole scene. The kid is always happy and everyone is living a happy life. But then no, kid sits in a corner all sad as the wife complains about being at home. Then the dad did the worst of all: Told the kid that Santa wasn’t real. On Christmas Eve. I mean come on, use a bit of originality or something. Not that this is something Occult Academy is alone with. Kids in anime just aren’t depicted properly. They’re always bubbling balls of cuteness, energy and endearing. Do the writers not, you know, actually have kids? Or is this part of Japanese Kawaii culture where kids are warped into these cutesy idealised versions. I mean, kids are cute, but if you’re going to make them be cute, have them do so by actually acting like kids. The only example I can think of off the top of my head is Usio from Clannad After Story. Cute, but actually acted like a kid is supposed to act.

Or maybe Japanese kids act different to any I’ve seen. Maybe it’s part of Japanese culture for kids to look at older people for a second, then grin maniacally with their eyes closed, going ‘eehee’ then running off.

The conclusion of the arc still had an ‘awww’ factor to it, but it would have had more if I didn’t have grumpy hat on and was too busy thinking at what an unbelievable situation this was. I know it’s a stupid complaint when it comes to something as nonsensical as Occult Academy, but the whole ‘OMG Santa isn’t real’ thing got to me. It’s like ‘how can we make this scene as depressing as poss—wait a second…

STOP THE PRESS!!!

THE PLOT

THE PLOT HAS BEEN SIGHTED!

I REPEAT, THE PLOT HAS BEEN SIGHTED!

Holy crap! It’s finally returned. Were the past 8 episodes all there just leading up to this moment? Did we piss about for the majority of the show just so Maya could get over the betrayal of her father (as debatable a reason it might be and everything). But she’s now determined. In the previous episodes she was just joking. Running around after fake alien spacecrafts was just her way of trying to come to terms with her tsudere relationship with the occult.

I don’t believe it. I’m almost giddy with anticipation. I’m so amazed that the plot, the real, true to life plot, has actually come back into the show once again! They remembered that there was an imminent alien invasion and that perhaps they should do something about it. Maya remembered she had a book by her dad that would help he fight the alien whatever organisation (seriously, where did that book go after episode 2? I think she left it in the towel).

Wow, I’m still slightly in shock. I don’t think I can even come up with some wild theories I’m so amazed. I think I need to lie down. Here’s TK jamming on a keytar to compensate for my lack of wild and imaginative theories.

I’m not sure if this makes me evil or not, but I LOL’d pretty hard at the little girl’s story. She died because she waited outside all night for Santa Claus? I agree with Landon — that’s not tragic, that’s STUPID.

      It makes you evil. Eeeeevil.

My parents yelled at me but oh well <3

      I daww’d too, but certainly didn’t spaz…

You wish. It’s totally a shadow. Re: the plot sighting, I wouldn’t get too excited, it might just be another hoax. Let’s hope not, of course, that preview certainly looked deliciously freaky.

Btw, I’ll see your Usio from Clannad After Story and raise it with, er, whatever the little one is called in My Neighbour Totoro (I love the way Miyazaki draws kids, especially when they’re just playing, the way their arms move. Both realistic and cute, if that makes sense).

Oh, and maybe your mood will lift slightly if you replace your grumpy hat with a way too early to be thinking about Xmas Santa bobble hat (I bet Debenhams are already selling these, I saw them stocking Xmas stuff in there already the other week, grr). Or, at least, try a Bakerboy hat. They suit everyone. Except, apparently, blind dinosaurs.

Christmas starts in August for retail. This is one of the reasons I got out of retail ASAP, nothing kills the christmas spirit faster than having to be around festive decorations for four months prior to the season ¬_¬

I’m a terrible person and haven’t seen Totoro yet. My fantasy Ghibli is pretty much complete but my kiddy Ghibli is sorely lacking.

I hope the plot actually reappears. I wouldn’t mind so much if the episodes they were actually doing were good. But they’re not. We need plot to spice things up a bit here.

I luuuuuurrvve Christmas. In fact, there’s only one part about it I don’t like. The fucking songs. So yeah, no retail for me please –_–

Small children irritate me on principle — these two episodes were consequently my least favourite of the series so far.

Still at least the characters have remembered about the whole end of the world plotline — hopefully they can pull off a decent ending.……although I won’t hold my breath for proper closure on all the plot threads.

      You monster!

I’m generally really good with kids because I can discuss Pokemon with them and muck about on their funny kiddy games they have. It’s my shounen super power

        I hate kids too <3

Everyone I meet is a little whorish bastard :I

      • Posted September 8, 2010 at 9:43 pm | Permalink

That’s one super-power I would never want! Small children seem to be fascinated with pulling my hair with their sticky little hands.

Whenever mother’s ask me to mind their child for ‘just a moment’ win work, I’m always left awkwardly staring at this tiny creature as they gradually work themselves up for a good wail when they find my hair isn’t detachable.

I just do not get along wth kids –__–

If you want to see a less sugarcoated childhood in anime, look at Elfen Lied. Some fucked up stuff in there, and scarily realistic in its depiction of the cruelty of children.

Urgh, I remember that. That wasn’t nice at all.

Not quite what I was looking for when describing realistically cute kids, but I’ll give it to you

I’m starting to think the best thing that Occult Academy has produced is the opening, Flying Humanoid..

It did give us Maya’s ridiculously hot outfit though

So yeah two chapters to solve the death of Maya’s father + find the Nostradamus key, I guess those chapters are gonna feel so rushed.

And seriously WTF spoiling Maya’s death next chapter!! I blame Mikaze, she showed a suspicious face this chapter when Fumiaki rejected her invitation to eat at her house.

I kinda doubt she really dies, although that would certainly be a shock ending. So long as they don’t do a Negima with ‘hey, lets kill a character to force some seriousness on the whole series!’
