Occult Academy episode 1

Here we go again, Anime no Chikara. Previous attempts at fancy timeslots with ambitious goals have been varied. Noitamina is a huge success (although latest figures haven’t been good). Noise, the timeslot that ran Michiko to Hatchin, Ristorante Paradiso and Aoi Hana, was a failure, dying after the third series. Anime no Chikara is now on its third series, with the previous two not being successful. Occult Academy does look like a step in the right direction though. It has an intelligence that Senko no Night Raid lacked and achieved what it set out to do, unlike Sora no Woto. There’s still plenty of space to collapse horribly but as far as first episodes go, it’s hard to ask for better than this.

The shows popularity hinges on this pretty little lady here. Maya is Ms.Walking-Fanservice with that one-piece, figure hugging, zettai ryouki outfit of hers. Well, she’s more than walking fanservice obviously. Easily perturbed while remaining aloof. A clutz while remaining dignified. There’s an air of a princess around her in the stuck up, ‘I’m always right’ way while keeping from being overbearing. She crosses her legs in the most eye-catching way I’ve ever seen any anime character achieve without the show ever pointing out that what they are doing is fanservice.

That’s one thing I liked about the show. Take the above scene. Crazy zombie girl does one of those classic ‘glasses, glasses’ scenes that feels rather silly, only for said glasses to block Porco Rosso’s devastating dowser rod’s attack. Now most anime would then proceed to have a straight guy point out the humour here, in case the audience is too dumb to see it. Because that’s how Japanese humour works. Here though, there’s nobody pointing out what’s meant to be funny. No stupid narrator directing your attention to the defensive properties of the glasses. A lot of what’s done doesn’t need to be said, mainly because Maya has such a great range of facial expressions that everything that needs to be said is portrayed perfectly anyway.

Lookin’ pretty classy down there Maya~

I think it’s the deep-set brow that does it. I’m so used to the generic massive eyes that anime characters typically have that getting Maya and her deep-set pair are quite the change. The character designer who came up with her deserves a medal for this performace. Although he does need to come up with some other outfits for her. As much as I love her one-piece, figure hugging, zettai ryouki outfit, when she’s wearing the exact same dress as a kid then you need to have something more.

And finally, the shadow. I mean look at it. They even included the knobbly bit at the end. I can only hope to achieve the level of detail in my blog posts that was put into that penis shadow. Because yup, I plan to blog this show this season. And only this, need to take a bit of a breather before the epic Autumn Season.

Y’know, I didn’t understand what that shadow meant until you pointed it out.
Shall watch this after I finish Sora no Woto (for completion’s sake) and start Senkou no Night Raid (for the Chinese lulz).

Also what’s up with all these charts? They’re all half real and half fake. :I

I think the general gist of what happened with these charts is thus:

Someone, upon seeing that Chartfag’s charts are getting rather slow lately, decided to make one himself. However the chart had a few dubious additions. Yet still people exploded over the charts like they were the word of god because they were so used to Chartfags charts. Hence someone decided to troll people by putting up all these anime everyone wants to be seen made. They did a pretty good job btw. Plenty of anime in there that were rumoured to be in the making. All it’s missing is Little Busters

OIC. My friend freaked out in seeing Yotsuba there. But then I saw PokeSpe, and automatically knew it was fake.

Also no Starry Sky, which is getting a movie. (The official site lies.)

I heard once that the “knobbly bit” was an evolutionary advantage to ensure that the woman you dragged to your cave bore your children and nobody else’s, by scraping out whatever other men might have left before you. Disgusting, but I think you’ll agree, a fascinating idea!

I haven’t seen this yet, but it looks promising. Girl looks a bit like Natsuki from Mai-HiME, too, which I find to be a plus.

Eeuurgh, I shall never think about that knobbly bit on the end of my penis the same way again.

I also heard there’s an animal (I think it was a cat but I’m probably wrong there) has barbs on the end of it’s penis so the recipient can’t escape while it’s doing its thing

Oh god, wait a minute. I just clicked your last link.

Scamp, that autumn season preview is fake. I saw some of my friends complaining about it on Facebook the other day.

If this is news to you, I’m really sorry. :(

Penis shadow!? Suddenly all the “she sees your penis” threads on /a/ these last two days make sense.

Finally, a show this season that’s worth getting excited about.

I wouldn’t get excited. It’s well written and clever but far from ground-breaking. Definately worth watching but not worth leaping up and down in your chair about

I’m loving this series already. Naked man in first episode? Eden of the East. Was that series awesome? Why yes lol. Here’s hoping this will be awesome too. Maya seems like a fun character too.

Also, that chart.. that fall anime chart. It’s making me srsly cry out of joy, it’s not even funny.

I am now crying again cause i just realized that chart is fake (scrolling down, i noticed the other series)
I blame Baccano 2 for making me cry at first.

      /despairs
