Nurarihyon no Mago episode 1

Hey guys! There’s this new anime coming out that’s based off a popular Shounen Jump manga. It’s going to be great I swear! Yeah I know Fairy Tail wasn’t any good. Yes I realise you’ve been burned by Letter Bee. But I swear this time will be different! Right? Well based off this episode, probably not.

One thing NnM did achieve was to remind me of what other shows do well. We have a bunch of 12 year old kids hanging out, a scenario done excellently by Dennou Coil and Noein. However here they are mindless bags that spout stock lines. As does the main character. No personality, just a bunch of stock lines. In fact, the whole show feels very lifeless. It has a lot of elements lifted from other anime that pulled off these elements more successfully. My real problem here was that, even if I wanted to find something to praise, there isn’t anything. Well, I suppose the animation was pretty good. But that’s like saying a girl ‘has nice eyes’.

I mean, it was far from being actively terrible. It didn’t make me facepalm like Amagami or rage against the format like Seitokai. In a way, the only thing it does wrong is not do anything right….which doesn’t make a lot of sense now that I’ve put that line into writing. But it just has nothing to get excited about. Nothing stands out. I don’t think you can blame Deen for this either all you manga fans. Sorry, but I think this is simply a case of your manga sucking. *sigh* Where have all the good shounen series gone?

I actually quite liked this. Shounen series rarely have an opening episode that wows you, rather they exist to show you the setting has potential; and I think Nurarihyon has some potential in it. I wasn’t falling over myself with praise for it, but its competant and I’m easily pleased by shounen series.

Or it could be that I’m just a hopeless Jun Fukuyama fangirl >_>

I thought I liked shounen. However I’m really starting to doubt that now. If I can’t be entertained by something so obviously by-the-book shounen like this then maybe shounen isn’t quite my forte

And in One Piece, it’s more like the characters are being hunted. Or stuff. And in Letter Bee, they deliver letters. Well, they did in the first two Episodes i watched, but then I got bored and dropped it.

There’s Beelzebub, which is fucking hilarious and is getting some sort of event anime. Like its shoujo counterpart. Idk what’s up with Shueisha… Aaaaanyway, I recommend watching it whenever it surfaces on the internet.

Also Fairy Tail is published by Kodansha and Tegami Bachi is in another magazine if you didn’t know…

I have to catch up with Shounen Jump mangoes.

Ah yes I’d heard of Beezlebub getting that event episode, which probably means it’ll get an anime soon. Again though you’ll have to colour me sceptical because I keep getting burned by shounens

hurp durp, I assume (wrongly) that all shounens are in Jump. I was convinced Letter Bee was Jump though

For a shounen with only several volumes out, it does extremely well in the rankings.

You have to consider the many publishers and many magazines they publish (monthly; weekly; different types like how Gan Gan has stuff like FMA and Soul Eater while G Fantasy serializes Pandora Hearts and Kuroshitsuji; then shoujo has younger girls and older girls magazines; etc.) also Tegami Bachi WAS in Jump, just not Weekly Shounen Jump. Just Monthly Shounen Jump. That turned into Jump SQ (Square). Oh. Still a Jump manga but not the one you were thinking of.

Speaking of good shounen series, does anyone know what Arakawa Hiromu’s next project is going to be?

Every time I see this anime’s title I think there’s a new Nyarlko anime coming out. And every time I realize that isn’t the case I cry as I’m denied more moeification of the Cthulhu Mythos.
