Nisioisin supports underage drinking. Nadeko went from onii-chan fetishist Worst Girl to binge drinking snake goddess. With the reveal at the end of this episode, combined with her brilliant EEEHHHH scene, she’s had two of the best moments in the whole season. Character transformation ahoy. If pulling a guillotine gorilla is anime version’s of jump the shark, then sprouting snake hair is anime’s version of growing the beard.
I really enjoy listening to Senjogahara and Kaiki speak. Part of this is I just like listening to Senjogahara’s voice. I would quite happily fall asleep listening to her like Tomoko with her Yandere Boys CD, never mind that I wouldn’t be able to understand a word she was saying. But in general I think the two of them have a great back and forth, where they say so much with so little. I’d probably get even more if I could just bloody remember what the hell happened in Senjogahara’s arc in the first place. Don’t hold it against me. The first season was out in 2009 and it wasn’t until the second arc with Mayoi where Senjogahara became all flirty and less openly hostile did I really start to fall for her and the show as a whole. I can’t really remember what happened in that first arc beyond a crab made of words and that she stapled the inside of Araragi’s mouth. At the time that seemed pretty drastic but with the more we’ve seen of Araragi’s character, the more intelligent a decision that appears.
I have been playing around with the idea of going back to Bakemonogatari as a little blogging project. I’ve already covered Nise and Second Season, so it would be nice to have the whole collection covered on the site. Unfortunately when I came up with this plan originally, my idea was to cover Bake after Kizumonogatari came out, then go from that to Nekomonogatari and then Bake and then whatever this final season is once Nisio finishes writing the last novels. Shaft said right from the off that they plan to cover the whole series, and they’re more than halfway done. At least as much as I can tell from the Wikipedia article. It’s awfully difficult to keep track of all these Monogataris. But yes, providing I don’t disappear mysteriously off the face of the earth before the last parts get animated, I will eventually cover all the Monogatari on this site. Although given how long they’ve already taken with Kizu, perhaps that’s not quite a big a guarantee as it sounds.
I loved Kaiki’s conversation with Ononoki too. Not because of anything Ononoki did, for whom as we’ve established is the new Worst Girl…ah it’s just not as fun to call Ononoki Worst Girl as it was to call Hanekawa and Nadeko Worst Girl because Ononoki doesn’t have any fans. All she did in that conversation was read from the Kaiki Backstory Plot. Or maybe she didn’t and made it all up? I can’t imagine Kaiki getting that sarcastic for any reason other than a defence mechanism. He could have just been trying to get rid of her because he too realised she was Worst Girl and by agreeing with her would hopefully get her away. If all that is true though, my theory of Kaiki being a shounen romcom lead in his youth were true all along.
What’s true in this arc at all though? Kaiki did say at the start that this wasn’t necessarily going to be true at all, just interesting. Hence why I can’t be bothered to do any speculation of how many different ways Nadeko is going to slice him apart next episode. I just hope he keeps to his interesting promise, because he sure as hell has delivered on it so far.
