I was going to be lazy and review episodes 8 and 9 together, I’d even written this bit on the top saying that. But as soon as I got writing I realised I had plenty to say about this episode.
BTW we should have a winter preview coming very soon, depends how long it takes Brian and Loba to do their bits.
Finally Jumbo is back in the picture. I was hoping she would feature more in the story, but I guess Michiko is a hard person to track. Or the police force just suck. Michiko was on TV during that bullfight for Christ sake, their police force must seriously suck. Ah well, at least she’s finally catching up.
So Michiko and Hatchin finally reached boiling point. I was wondering whether they would be bickering for the entire length of the series. I don’t think Michiko realises how much she and Hatchin are drifting apart. Hatchin doesn’t listen or respect Michiko at all. Now I look back at it, that bullfight episode was completely out-of-sync with everything else in this show. It’s as though the writers desperately wanted to put in a bullfight, I mean do they even have bullfights in Brazil?
The reason Michiko was here in the first place was to find Satoshi but instead ran into this faker. Where the real Satoshi is I’m not sure, but apparently the baddy in this episode knows him. And by god what a villain we have here-
Meet Shinuske. Michiko knows him from somewhere, he might’ve been mentioned in those flashbacks in the earlier episodes but so many names were shot about at that stage that I’m really not sure. Either way, he’s so wild that I just have to post another picture-
Argh, isn’t he great! I love psychotic characters, like Rail Tracer from Baccano. So wild yet so convinced in what they’re doing. Hopefully he’ll stay for a bit longer, maybe square off with Jumbo, although I get the feeling from this series that characters like him are dumped off soon and let the main characters carry on.
So, being the wild fella that he is, he sends Michiko on a tram chase, as you would. Cue more perfectly animated chase scenes. Manglobe really have put time into this show. I’m not going to bother taking a screencap of the chase because you can’t show how fluid it is with a mere picture. Finishes of with them meeting in an abandoned train station with Jumbo on her way!
There was a very smart bit towards the end where Michiko spotted Hatchin in the tram going past her, but stayed on her own train. As Trillain pointed out on Random Curiosity, twas a great bit of symbolism to show that Michiko and Hatchin are parting ways. At least, I know that already since I’ve watched the next episode. As I said, I was going to review them together but then realised I had plenty to say about this episode. Probably the best episode of the show so far, Shinuske was such a great villain. Heck, I can’t help it, here he is again
