Another week, another MAL posts roundup. Still working my way into things, but I’ve fallen into a comfortable rhythm of 3 episodics and one analytical post per week. Might even bump it up to 2 non-episodics per week once I get my schedule sorted out. As I write the season preview for this site, I’m sure I can use the knowledge from there to write several posts for MAL. Oh yeah, that season preview is still coming. Anyway, here’s what I wrote last week.
I really like Gakkou Gurashi. Its gimmick has proven to be the thing that gives it that extra depth to keep me coming back. It’s why I enjoy it more than I liked Higurashi. Both use contrast between cute moeblobs and horror, but while Higurashi might have a better plot (at the end of the day, Gakkou Gurashi is still just another zombie apocalypse story), I ultimately felt its use of moeblobs was for shock factor and little else. Meanwhile I feel Gakkou Gurashi uses the aesthetic and tone of the moeblob genre for a reason. Or two reasons, as I write about in the post. Go read it if you’re interested, but it has become one of my favourite anime this season. Unless the Fall season turns out mind-blowingly amazing (and from doing season preview research, I seriously doubt that), Gakkou Gurashi looks like a lock for my top 10 at the end of the year.
Shimoneta episode 8: I really don’t like this new girl at all. I don’t mind what she’s doing to the dynamic of SOX. That’s fine and creates interesting conflicts. It’s her fucking loli imouto shtick and the “lick my feet” thing she now has going for her. Look man, if I want to see feet licking I go to Prison School.
Durarara!!x2 Ten – Episode 8: I got very confused watching this episode. I actually took notes, that’s how confused I was. And then at the end of the episode it didn’t matter because the groups I spent the whole time keeping track of disbanded. But it was still fairly entertaining regardless. Although does this mean the stalker Ruri story is over? Maybe I should try rewatch the first season again…
Classroom☆Crisis – Episode 8: Classroom Crisis has lost me I’m afraid. This episode may have been an improvement on previous episodes and it’s the show largely back on form. But I feel like the underlying issues are too great for me to get much more enjoyment from it. Why in gods name is this set in high school? Seriously? When a show has broken my engagement, it’s basically impossible to get it back.
