Something looks strangely similar. Is it the hairband? The pose? The same colour and design for the uniform? The symbol placed on the left forearm? Oh well, it’s probably just a coincidence. It’s probably also a coincidence that they’re playing a music concert in Angel Beats promo video.
(And you thought this would be another Nick Simmons post)
Post + Hairband I’d say. The uniform really isn’t that different from the generic, and the hair is a pretty standard untrimmed short crop. People are overreacting in my opinion.
Other than the genki trait, she’s also nothing like Haruhi as far as personality goes based on the trailer’s scenes.
Looks pretty deliberate to me, but no worse than all of the Rei Ayanami clones we got after Evangelion or the way the Sora no Woto chicks look like the K-On chicks or the way every action movie for a few years after The Matrix had everyone running around in bondage gear and doing bad imitations of wire-fu.
Now that there’s a Haruhi wannabe with a gun, I want Haruhi to up the ante and get a shotgun or a sniper rifle in the next Haruhi season. She can’t let herself be outdone by a copycat.
I remember reading months ago that Angel Beats was supposed to parody The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya, but I didn’t get it from a reliable source. o/ Guess we’ll have to see.
The similarity is too high to be a coincidence, much like the K-ON and Sora no Woto thingy. There comes a point where you realise there’s no way in hell this is a coincidence. Not that it really means a whole lot at the end of the day
@Landon
I think Evangelion fanboys were very quick to label every lifeless girl a Rei ripoff. Not that they didn’t exist, but not as many as some people said there were.
I agree with Landon that writing this off as a blatant copycat is an overreaction. With the thousands of anime characters out there, many with similar roles and personalities, there can only be so many different character designs. So there are bound to be look-alikes. I’ve seen many look-alikes over the years and it doesn’t bother me. As long as the supposed copycat series gives me at least a few good, unique traits, I don’t have a problem with it.

I’d hit both.

To me, the girl on the left looks.…more like Haruhi than Haruhi does?
You’re right, they look alike!
