Hurrah for Pandora Hearts fanservice

You might claim you are watching this anime for the deep and involving plotline. You may point out the absorbing development Oz has gone through since the start, or how his relationship with Alice has gradually evolved over the course of the anime. You may also say, only as an afterthought, that you watch this anime for the fanservice, but hasten to add that this anime has a rather small amount of that said attraction. Frankly, I wish there was more.

Pandora Hearts episode 20 was basically filler. Make the character drink alcohol and watch them make fools of themselves, it’s a staple of any anime if they wish to kill some time and lighten the mood before the next dramatic plot twists. Usually they are mildly entertaining but a bit tedious as you realise that no more plot progressions will occur in the episode. However I find myself looking forward to these episodes when it comes to Pandora Hearts. No really, when the next episode preview in episode 19 hinted at a filler episode, I found myself cheering. The reason is pretty simple. The characters in this show are fantastic. Pandora Hearts is one of those rare occasions where the quality of the manga’s writing manages to overcome the shortcomings of the adapters, in this case Xebec. I made this point way back after episode 12, another filler episode and incidentally my favourite episode of Pandora thus far. That’s not to say the plot is poor or anything, far from it. It goes back to the same reason why FUMOFFU is more popular than the first season of Full Metal Panic. When you have quality characters, people just love to watch them mess about. Hmm, too long without an Alice picture.

Pandora Hearts sexy Alice!

Xebec have really hit gold with this manga. OK, not quite gold, but certainly some kind of precious metal. It’s first season DVD was only outsold by Eden and K-ON, which was only to be expected, but it also hints at Pandora’s popularity. The thoughts amongst fans of the manga at the moment is that Pandora may shoot through to a second season. Now I don’t read the manga, I’ve always preferred to watch anime, but apparently the anime follows the manga fairly faithfully so you can probably expect an open ending, and a second season will certainly come if that’s the case. As I said, this is turning into a real money-grabber for Xebec. Personally I would hope for someone else to do the new season but I can’t see Xebec letting go of this series

Plus, Pandora appeals to both genders. For myself, there’s Alice to drool over. For all those Hetalia fans who follow this blog, here’s something for you lot to squeal over.

Pandore Hearts fangirl fodder

As you can probably tell from the quality of photoshopping works on these two pictures, guess where my priorities lie :)

Actually, episode 20 wasn’t filler at all. They actually cut scenes from the manga chapter it was based on (ostensibly to extend the fanservice scenes). I wasn’t looking forward to this episode at all, for said reasons, though Gil at the end was pretty funny. And sweet at the same time. “Hai, bocchan!” ROFL.

Lol, this is my favorite episode, love the part when Alice and Gil fights, and screams at the hopeless maid. “Urusai! Baka usagi!”

This episode wasn’t filler… it all came from the manga.
