BUTTS
Hahaha, just kidding. Not going to drag that out again! I couldn’t resist that intro after Hisoka’s pasty posterior came up in conversation earlier today.
Anyway, we get more time with one Biscuit Krueger this episode. I love her development here as she goes from wanting to pick on Gon and Killua to raging and indignant as Killua blows her off to absolutely beside herself at these FUCKING CASUALS just strolling through the game doing whatever. All that precious Nen potential going to waste . . . she can’t help but want to train them. (Which also happens to involve making their lives miserable, as you can tell by her order for Killua to do 200 pushups after failing the training test.)
It’s pretty interesting — and common sense, considering who made Greed Island in the first place — that so much of the game involves varied use of Nen, and it also makes sense that Gon and Killua wouldn’t pick up on this too quickly. Even though they have powered through Nen lessons at an astonishing rate, Gon and Killua haven’t had to use Nen in many strategic ways yet, mainly because they’ve been up against opponents who would destroy them in a straight-up Nen battle. They haven’t had time to settle down and really learn the intricacies of Nen. Gon needed some prodding from Wing to unleash his crazy super strength, and Killua was basically experimenting when he came up with his electric Nen powers.
So, yes, Gon and Killua have basically been brute forcing their way through Nen training so far, so it’s no surprise that they’re unable to apply their Nen powers to puzzle solving in Greed Island. (Side note: How AWESOME would a Zelda-style Greed Island game be where you use different types of Nen to solve puzzles and battle enemies? I would play this in a heartbeat.) I laughed a lot at how happy they are to just walk around, sample the sights and run the hell away when they’re confronted by nasty creatures while Biscuit grumps and grouses while she stands from on high. Kids having fun?! OUTRAGEOUS
still though HNNNNNNNGH
While all this fun stuff is going on, our friends the Spiders are doing their own thing in Greed Island. I like the revelation that Greed Island takes place on a real island rather than a virtual area. It’s a nice way to have a video game-like presentation while still ensuring that the normal rules and such that the story has already established are still in play. I also love that the explanation “Our bodies were transported to a faraway island” makes more sense than “The video game console sucked out our souls, and here we are!” By the way, it must have taken a LOT of Nen power to craft this humongous world on the island. That alone should be an indicator of how strong Ging is.
Also lol Phinks and Feitan having a player-killing competition. That asshole with the Beats by Dre headphones is among their (many by now, surely) victims. Can’t think of a more deserving person at the moment. (More deserving folks will, however, make themselves known later on.) Anyone have bets on who will win? I honestly don’t remember if the story actually bothers to name a winner, haha. Both dudes are utterly deadly. If I had to pick, though, I think I’d go with Feitan. Just a gut feeling.

We never have enough butts.
Never ever.
Lol @ identifying the guy Phinks/Feitan killed asshole with Beats by Dr Dre headphones
I wonder if they were originally a card.
I ship Shinmaru and BUTTS.
This was my favorite comment of yesterday until I received a different comment. But I thought you would care to know that you were my favorite person for the majority of the day.
Hisoka’s BUTTS and SHINING CROTCH! +1 to goodness of the Butts in this pic.
I think I skipped the part where only Hisoka grants people the pleasure of seeing either.
I’ll weigh in on Phinks, ’cause he snaps necks – and i have no further reasoning.
Also, great post. I struggled to find anything particularly good about this episode, but you nailed it with Bisquit’s development – at least it sounds good.
Thinking about the possibilities of Killua’s electricity in practical combat-use will probably on its own carry my interest until it is fully explored in the story… as well.
Everytime I see Killua use his electricity I feel a heavy desire to play Infamous/Infamous 2.
Also if one his tricks is electric healing im going to lose faith in humanity because every single time ive heard of electricity being a super power they always use it for healing somehow.
I’m not even sure how electricity would be used to heal someone.
I said last episode that I was looking forward to seeing the invariably dumb way in which Gon would win her over, but I never thought it was the fact he and Killua was dumb that would do it!
I love this show.
Obviously being dumb is the way to conduct oneself in life.
Vividred messed our minds. Still Hisoka butt owns everything.
As for the episode, im bit sad they had to cut some of Greed Island ova scenes, but still was enjoyable, especially Biscuit and her desire to polish those 2 lil monsters. You may ask whence came Tsunade from Naruto.
And butts never end, soon someone we know will want to compete.
It’s been a while since I watched the OVA, so I don’t remember exactly what was cut …
I had all sorts of mixed feelings about his episode. One the one hand i hated it that they skipped a lot of stuff and on the other i kinda like that they’re rushing through greed island so we can get to the new stuff.
Also is it just me or does this post have more comments than usual ? Looks like everybody loves hisoka’s butt.
As I wrote on Twitter, my experience this week has taught me that people love butts.
I like how far it has permeated into the group of people I know that only assholes wear beats by dr. dre headphones. because it’s true.
IT’S DAMN TRUE
I don’t watch Hunter x Hunter (which may be remedied soon), but I do support BUTTS, so thanks for this.
As long as the opportunity gracefully presents itself for more BUTTS, I think you have a duty to deliver said BUTTS.
Embrace it.
Oh noes! Shinmaru’s putting mature content secretly by placing a picture of Hisoka’s butt! thecartdriver’s gonna get taken down!!!!!
Jokes aside I kind of didn’t like the idea of people going inside games in general (THANKS ACCEL WORLD AND SAO AND .HACK’S FRANCHISE MULTIPLE FAILS) even though this is older, but at least it was explained that this isn’t like it and just merely gets transported. This somehow shows that greed island is not your average virtual reality game
BTW so far I’m enjoying this arc but I hate training parts (damn shounen animes) unless something witty goes on and it seems that there will be plenty of that next time…
I’d vote on Feitan cuz he’s THE SUN.
You will understand if you read the next arc.
