Hunter x Hunter 120 – Rainbow Sperm

hunter-x-hunter-rainbow-spermDon’t even pretend like I am the only person who went there immediately.

This is the point where even I am tired of the narrator for not adding much to the show and blatantly pointing out things that had been carefully and subtly woven into the narrative but also weren’t so obscure that the audience couldn’t get it, even if it’s a few weeks before the payoff. A little narration to remind the audience of things is fine. Not everyone is an obsessive fan who will remember every miniscule detail about a story. But it’s so pervasive here that I’m shocked the narrator hasn’t yet pointed out that Killua escaped with the help of Meleoron like, “AND, AS EVERYONE KNOWS, MELEORON’S SPECIAL ABILITY ALLOWS HIM TO HIDE THE PRESENCE OF HIMSELF AND OTHERS FROM THE ENEMY, WHICH KILLUA USED TO ESCAPE YOUPI.”

Just have a bit of faith in the audience to realize things themselves or go back and find out later. It’s legit clever how the story shows that Morel is an ace in these test of nerves via his battle with Cheetu (even if it’s like prime Mike Tyson boxing a kindergartner), but before the mission begins throws in that Morel is tired from staying up a long time in preparation and isn’t at 100 percent physical or mental strength. It’s not thrown in there for no reason. There is a purpose, and that pays off here with Morel losing the one-on-one battle of wills with Pouf but also winning in a way since he is able to aid Knuckle against Youpi. It’s all simple, clear stuff that the audience can figure out on their own and can still work even if all the dots aren’t connected right away.

Anyway, here is one of Pouf’s creepy clones. Terrifying.

One thing I’m enjoying about this arc right now is how the Royal Guard are all doing their job in different ways. Pitou is patching up the King’s best friend in the whole world. Youpi is doing the heavy lifting, taking on everyone who gets in his way. And now Pouf is getting a feel for the situation before deciding how to act. Even when they’re apart, they’re inadvertently working together. Must be those ant instincts in them. Everything for the good of the group! I’m also enjoying how hateable Pouf is right now. Pitou is earning sympathy points for being a moe cat fixing someone up, while Youpi is more a force of nature than anything. Hating Youpi is like hating a tornado or earthquake or something. What they do sucks, but it’s nothing personal.

Pouf, though, now there’s a giant, smug asshole. You can respect Pouf for the life-or-death bet to escape Morel, but also still feel the hate for snickering about the victory like a big jerk and butting in on Pitou’s surgery like an asshole. He’s going to ruin everything! Probably not, though, since Killua had his eye on Pouf and will likely interfere before that happens. But still! Only big jerks in soap interrupt the surgery of a beloved character. You just don’t DO that!! I’m ready to boo the hell out of Pouf at all times now. Makes me wish there were an audience to boo Pouf and driver Poofy into insanity. The angry faces would be glorious.

And hey! Almost forgot about you. I welcome the return of the cap that changes with its wearer’s mood. First mad …

… and happy! Quite cute, if I do say so myself. Lifting that giant chunk of stone and tossing it as if it were nothing is rather adorable, too. The threat of physical harm was never so moe as this!

Not gonna lie, totally forgot about Knov and was like “Yeah!” at this reveal. I was so happy to see Shoot still alive that I didn’t even consider the logistics of this scene until now. Was Knov keeping a surgical crew in his dimensional room until now, just in case? Or did he find a good hospital in like five minutes or however long it has been since this attack begin? Either way Knov is crazy resourceful.

Such things should not be pointed out. Besides, we’ve had this ED for over 4 months, why make a point of this now?

None of the narration given so far was anime original. The manga used a poetic type of narration to the invasion to give it a more epic feeling but because they couldn’t have text the anime had the narrator say it instead. The poetic narration was one of my favorite parts of the Invasion to be honest but I understand that it’s not for everyone.

I could see that being interesting, and to be fair, a lot is probably lost in translation.

I loved this episode cuz I have seen enough modern-style “yes… good guys can die, too…” types of films, series, etc. But if the good guys win for no apparent reason, then it gets a bit wearisome.

Knuckle and Morel wailing on Youpi is just lovely. It took a perfect set of circumstances, but it is just plausible enough, in light of everything that has happened, that it took me on a wonderful “Yeah… Fuck you, Youpi, and your stupid tentacles!!!” ride. And come on… Knuckle does a great “Fuck you and here I am, tentacled piece of dirt!!!”

And who was the person in the cocoon? Is that Palm? If she has turned into an ant, then imagine what kind of ant her personality would morph into. It is a horrifying thought.

And I have been waiting for how the king’s intellectual romance with the Player of Games would change everything as the ever present narrator promised… Maybe, this is it? Pouf with his semi-independent thoughts will interfere and Neferpitou kills the shit out of him so that she can continue healing the King’s crush. That would give us a semi-plausible reason why the good guys could win this thing.

Still waiting for the hammer to come down on a good guy… Since this series has managed to get me attached to every good guy, that will suck when and if it happens.

No matter who dies, we are all sad. Unless it’s like Bizeff or something.

I did a fist pump when Knov showed up, such a beast to actually venture in deep enough to extract Shoot even after he got mentally crushed by Pitou’s aura.

Yeah… Nice one there… I was hoping Shoot’s evolution into badass-dom was not just so he could be killed off with maximum emotional affect for the viewers.

It was Pouf’s aura, but Knov mistook it as Pitou’s.

So, Knov an entire medical crew on standby in his magic apartment. Yet no-one thought about keeping some spare pipes for Morel? If you’re gonna be useless without a pipe then maybe you should take some lesson from Gifuu Doudou’s Maeda Keiji:

Wait. Is APR visible only when Knuckle is near? Because it wasn’t around Youpi the past episode. I don’t remember it disappearing when Gon’s nen was blocked. Could it be a mistake?

APR is always visible. It turned invisible because Knuckle was within Meleoron’s nen.

Yeah. For instance, both the audience and Cheetu could still see APR when Cheetu ran really far from Knuckle.
