After his appearance in Hetalia being hyped up more than the Spanish football team at the world cup, it’s finally time for Prussia to take centre stage. Been compared in the comments as the Chuck Norris of Hetalia (although I think he has more in common with Hosaka with Minami-ke. Both rarely appear but are so convinced of their greatness and have huge fans because of it), it’s finally time for his part in history. Oh, and Austria and Hungary as well, because so far I’ve never understood why people liked those two.
First though, let me talk for a second about the Horrible History books. These were history books aimed at children that ran on the assumption that anything with lots of violence and toilet humour, both of which history has in abundance, kids would love. And boy did they ever. These books essentially turned me into a history nerd. Now replace ‘children’ with ‘teenage girls’ and ‘violence and toilet humour’ with ‘bishies and homoerotic tensions’ and you’re basically looking at the very reason why Hetalia is popular. History has plenty of interesting and funny stuff going on in it. It just needs the right medium to go through to reach certain audiences.
Generally Hetalia hasn’t felt like a history lesson because it keeps taking random pieces of history with no attempt to keep in chronological order and the humour is often based off cultural quirks rather than history itself. However the Austrian Succession is done entirely as a history lesson. I was meant to read up on the Austrian Succession before the episode but have spent my time listening to those vuvuzelas (and watching football as well I suppose, but it’s the vuvuzelas are the important part) so I have no idea what happens with this war. But this time I have no intention of reading up on it because when the episode ended I found, for the first time, that I was excited about the plot. I’m learning my history from Hetalia. Someone make Himaruya a history teacher. He’s wasted studying art design.
Also I can’t leave this post without mentioning this classic line.
And I’m pretty sure the line ‘Prussia can seize my vital regions anyday’ has been uttered by fangirls across the world. I don’t blame anyone who falls for those red eyes. I’ve been victim to those before.

This episode probably made me laugh more than the others in the new season. Partially because of Prussia and Austria. And that little bird is adorable!
The thing about Hetalia, is that when it gets to stuff like this, I actually learn the basics of everything that goes on. And I loved the Bad Touch Trio.
After a poor start to the season Hetalia has been pretty strong since then. Not sure if I’d call it my favourite episode until the next episodes on this sequence get a full run out though
Prussia actually transcended that meme and supposedly goes around seizing vital regions in 4chan, or so I read in TV tropes. He also canonically seized control of Hidekaz’s site for April Fools.

The Austrian Succession strips were my favourite when I first read the series, so I’m pretty excited to see them finally being adapted. Also, the more Prussia the better.
…I’m worried about them actually including everything, but I will just have to depend on Studio Deen to do it right. Depend on… Studio Deen… right…
(They’ll completely cut out Spain and France’s parts, I know it.)

I’m enjoying the narrative nature of the War of Austrian Succession so far too. As much as I often like the semi-random nature of Hetalia, it’s fun to see something that continues in an arc too.
And right on about the red eyes. There’s just something about girls with that eye color, though Arashi from Natsu no Arashi is my particular favorite.
And since they were done by the same author, he effectively copied the design off Yakumo for Arashi. Although we all know Yakumo is superior

My first ever anime crush was Envy from FMA. I seem to go for the psychopaths and the narcissists.
I’m so pumped for the next episode. This is probably my favourite arc, so I really hope they do a good job.

I was beyond thrilled for this episode, seeing as not only am I a mad Prussia fangirl, but because the long history between Prussia and Austria happens to be my forte.
