Geddit? It’s called Legend of the Legendary Heroes? You know, the redundant title that looks awfully silly so I decided to improve it? Because Legend can be split up into Leg-End, and the end of your leg is your foot? Yeah, I guess every single person reading that line instantly facepalmed. Oh right, I should be reviewing the actual show, shouldn’t I.
Before coming into this show, I had the opinion that ZEXCS, the studio that makes Legendary Legend, sucks. This is not strictly true. To be classed as a studio that sucks, you would have to create anime that are actively terrible. None of the anime they make are actively terrible. I could never summon enthusiasm to hurl abuse upon Rental Magica, Chrome Shelled Regios, Umi Monogatari or anything else they make, because none of them are terrible shows. They are all average. The epitome of average. Any mildly interesting parts get instantly balanced out by mildly stupid parts to one giant ball of averageness. The Legendary anime is no different.
There’s some actively terrible parts, such as that one instance of the ultimate of lazy exposition.
Hey other character. I have a question. You know the way we are doing this long quest which I shall now explain to the viewers in detail? Then why are we doing some mundane activity that’s not related to said quest I just finished explaining!
However to balance that out there’s been some semblance of characterisation. I suppose you could call the plot a bit generic, but there’s barely anything made nowadays that doesn’t have most of its aspects lifted from previous works. It’s nowhere near as actively jarring as the by-the-books of Amagami for instance.
It’s not a bad show. However, neither is it a good show. It is the epitome of average, just like every ZEXCS work before it. I strongly recommend you don’t watch this. If you do you’ll be trapped. You can’t drop the show because it’s not bad enough to drop, but neither are you really enjoying the thing. You’ll be incapable of not watching the latest episodes, simply because they appear and and automatic reaction is set off in your brain, telling you that you are watching the show and therefore must view this latest installment. I’ve fallen foul to its grasp. Heck, I’ve watched episode 2 already and look what’s happened to me! Making jokes about Leg-Ends.There is no hope for me anymore. But you! You still have time! Save yourself, my loyal readers. Save yourself while you still can!

When a fantasy series is so generic that is hurts the mind of a fantasy-lover like me to watch it, I’d classify that bad.
My friend agreed with me when he outright said “this is… just bad” about 6min in; mostly cause its jokes weren’t even funny.
The second episode is better btw. It’s got a formula roughly similar Berserk NO WHAT AM I DOING DON’T RECCOMEND THIS ANIME TO ANYONE SCAMP!
So thats what happens to me! I’m always getting trapped watching really average shows purely because they’re not awful enough to make me drop them. Unfortunately I’ve also already watched ep2 and will probably end up stuck with this series to the end, just like Regios before it.….I’m hopeless
My ZEXCS trap was Rental Magica. Again, it wasn’t bad, it had some good aspects to it. Just…average
I’m crazy in that i actually want a second season of Chrome Shelled Regios. I mean they ended it on such a cliffhanger…
I’ll take this warning to heart. I’ve been trapped by many average shows.

If we can agree that something is sterile, uninspired, and lifeless, the yeah, its bad. ZEXCS: animator of shows that are less than the sum of their parts.
but it’s not sterile, unispired and lifeless though. That’s part of my point. I’m not the kind of person to call a show average when it’s not doing anything right

Nah, that was Xebec. Which was a surprise in itself though because Xebec are a pretty woeful studio in their own right and Pandora Hearts really surprised me

So, how about that third episode, eh? I just finished all three in a row a moment ago, is it safe to declare that each episode is better than the one before it yet?

No, the episodes are not getting better. They are only raising the ante. The quality of story-telling, character interations and general intelligence of the anime has not improved. Only the episodes have gotten more dramatic. Theoretically if they kept this up until the end we’d have a pretty good anime (it’s what the second half of Mai Hime essentially ran on) but I can’t see that happening
