Regardless of whether it’s even close to what Nakamura says, I laughed at that phrasing in the gg version of this episode. I could totally buy Nakamura as a worldly traveler collecting phrases about people boning.
I had the funniest cringe on my face through the entire first half of this episode, mainly because I was waiting for something awful to come and shatter Kasuga’s happiness. Poor Kasuga really hoped that Nakamura just wanted to be friends with Saeki and cheer on their budding relationship from the sidelines. You can’t really blame him, though. He’s still a kid and hasn’t yet had hope stomped out of him by the world at large. I assume that is to come later, though.
This episode is amusing throughout because the kids do so many 180s. When Kasuga stands up for Nakamura, he’s basically a cockroach; however, when Saeki says, “Yeah, we’re totally boyfriend and girlfriend,” suddenly Kasuga is a Rock Star. Oh, those flighty children! Kasuga being totally arrogant about it due to his newfound bliss (if only for a short time) is plenty amusing, too. That is definitely the most predictable middle school boy response to suddenly getting a girlfriend and becoming way more popular. But then the guilt seeps in . . .
The mindset Kasuga exists in is pretty fucked up. He definitely doesn’t need Nakamura to show that. Directly comparing Saeki to the Virgin Mary is pretty crazy! But I thought about it a little more after finishing the episode, and it strikes me as the extreme of the little kid point of view when they do something bad: hope that you don’t get caught and that if you do a bunch of good things afterward, then it will make up for that bad thing you did. It’s penance without having to take responsibility for anything. Pretty much every kid thinks like this at some point. I know I hid shit from my parents all the time, because I thought the actual punishment would be a million times worse than hiding things.
This is basically the main way in which Kasuga is totally acting his age, haha.
Back to Kasuga’s deification of Saeki — obviously viewing anyone with that standard (no matter how well-intentioned) is pretty bad and rather unfair to that person, since you’re molding them into someone they most likely are not (I am assuming that Saeki isn’t going to shit out Jesus 2.0 or something later on), and also setting yourself up for disappointment and anger when said person does not meet those lofty standards. Ain’t nobody in this world who’s a perfect person. That said, Nakamura’s extreme of “Dude, she totally wants it as much as you; just slip her the dick, ya perv!” isn’t exactly better. Being more comfortable with physical contact is one thing, but jumping straight into the sexy times at that age is entirely different for obvious reasons. Pushing that so hard is more liable to make Kasuga retreat further into his “SAEKI IS A GODDESS AND THAT IS THAT” shell, anyway.
I do wonder if Nakamura is going to follow and like climb a tree to peek through a window or something in the hopes of catching Kasuga in some sort of lewd position. The sheer delight on her face were that to happen would result in the greatest screencap known to mankind.
