Durarara!! episode 16

…huh?

Whaaaaaaaaaaaaaat the hell was all that?

Watching anime where you are in a constant state of confusion is hardly a new thing. Feeling your brain slowly melt out your ears as you try to follow the plot is far from being an unenjoyable experience. But when it comes in episode 16 of an anime that’s never had an episodic like it before it can really throw your mind in disarray. It was just so different in tone and direction that it totally threw me. It felt like an episode of Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex, which is not a bad thing by any means. It’s just GITS requires utmost concentration when watching to follow what’s going on. My mind tends to wander in an episode of DRRR, such as what would Celty look like in a cheerleader outfit and other such important philosophical questions. Not only that but the horror-esque zombie movie scenes also threw me totally off balance. It was a tense episode to say the least. It was also an enjoyable episode but in a far different way to previous Durarara episodes. What I’m trying to say is: I didn’t fully understand all that went on.

Hence I’m kinda at a loss what to say about this episode. No, actually it’s more than that. I don’t want to say anything about this episode (although I’ve already written 230 words but eh~, that was mainly GITS rambling). And most of all I don’t want to read what anyone thought of the episode either. I have some idea as to what went on regarding Saika and there were parts I understood fully, but I’d like to wait another episode before anything else. My biggest question of the episode is why Shizuo? Again, I have some vague theories as to why it’s him but I want to wait another episode.

So yeah, dull post is dull, so instead fangirls can revel in the fact that because the possibility of IzayaXShizuo was mentioned in the anime itself means that they are now canon, even if every other character dismissed the idea (except Shinra strangely enough). It’s strange to think that with all the yaoi fanart that exists of the two, this is only time since episode 3 that the two have had anything even remotely resembling a conversation. It did highlight the fact that Izaya might just be tormenting Shizuo because he genuinely sees him as a rival.

Ever since I wrote this post I’ve just had a thing for genderswapped pictures.

I still don’t get why Shitzuo Shizuo tops instead of Pizzaya.

Oh, wait. I think I do.

Actually the whole Saika thing is a bit confusing but from my understanding Saika loves all humans especially Shizuo due to his insane strength.Saika need strong human host to spread her love to humanity but Shizuo don’t buy their crap.In short, the sword is lacking of reproduction ability but can infect people to be her “child”.

Anri however does not feels love thus Saika has no power over her but she has admitted that she is envious of the sword’s ability to love since she has never in her life experienced love of any kind.Next episode should clear all of that confusion probably with Anri past & how much Saika true power will shown by Anri.

By the way Scamp, please don’t post any those picture again…it kinda ruin my image to Shizuo & instead put badass Anri picture :p

Well, it was certainly an intense episode, wasn’t it?

And now for the official yaoi fangirl comment (you knew it was coming): we knew all that fighting had to be UST between Izaya and Shizuo! Now maybe they’ll just get a room somewhere…

I have this strange belief that if Izaya saw all the slash that was for him and Shizuo, he’d make a public confession to someone else on the show, probably Namie, just to piss everyone off.

And hot damn, I’d hit that.

I agree, I always feel a sense of anticipation mixed with dread when it’s time for me to blog an episode of Durarara!! since I know my brain will have to work extra hard to make sense of what’s going on.

… And genderswapped Shizuo breaks my brain yet again. The power of genderswapped is too much for me to overcome!

As for the slash thing, I’m pretty sure the idea of Izaya/Shizuo has been mentioned in canon before. Apparently a succubus from the Vamp! series felt that Shizuo had a great passion for Izaya, and when it tried to seduce him Shizuo beat the succubus up?
At least that’s what TV Tropes tells me.

Though I do think that in the light novels it’s made pretty clear that the two honest to God hate each other.

    Finally caught up! Yay me.

I didn’t think that ep was any more confusing than usual, i.e. not very. Maybe because the past eps were fresher in my memory? Well, everyone (we) already suspected Anri was closely tied to this Saika business, and Saika sought out to possess Shizuo ’cause he’s the “strongest in Ikebukuro”. Other than that, why do zombie hordes perpetually grow? We usually don’t question such things.

Hm… If your into zombie movies and ghostories, you can get this. Think zombies with possessed souls. Also, a hot female shizuo would be the biggest turn off. Not just cuz she can spearhead you with a stop sign. But also the fact that she is hot. I mean dangerously hot. *ssssss…..*
