Day with The Cart Driver Season 2 Episode 2 – Macross Triangle with a dash of Sunshine

Not featured: The actual best girl with the space Arab.

Welcome again to a Day with The Cart Driver anime podcast, where you can listen to myself and Day from Gar Gar Stegosaurus talk about anime. This show we talk about what we finished over the summer season…which basically means we spend the entire podcast talking about Macross Delta. Oh, and a little bit of Love Live Sunshine at the end.

You can download the podcast or simply listen to it on the website here. Timestamps below.

0:00 – 13:45 – General Macross discussion, along with phone games with terrible voices and the best and worst anime endings.

13:45 – 34:00 – Spoiler free discussions about Macross Delta, who is lesbian and who isn’t, Messer’s motivation, Macross music.

34:00 – 43:15 – Here be spoilers, such as the ending, who is the best girl, and the best guy (it’s the rich arab guy).

43:15 – 53:45 – Day gets to talk about Love Live Sunshine, idol sameface syndrome, and the decimation of the male population.

We had to eat half our sweets too, some kids came but we had too much. (Though honestly that was expected.)

I think whether or not one would dig Macross 7 lies with whether or not they can stand Basara. I personally can’t stand that self-centered prick that only cares about his music and a glowing space elf so guess which side of the fence I’m on. And it wasn’t just the plot that was annoyingly repetitive in the first half since the same goes for the music and the animation (and the animation never improves in that regard).

That said, the ending still squeezed a big dumb smile out of me nonetheless.

Y’know, I actually can’t stand Basara, either. He strikes me as a fairly typical male artist character in that his shitty behavior is supposed to be excused by his commitment to his craft, and we just can’t understand him! But, yeah, nah, not buying that shit. I liked the overall show, though, and I liked the music quite a bit. I love Mylene.
