Bakuman episode 23

I read somewhere that JC Staff were one of the few animation studios directly damaged by the earthquake. As in, they were hit by more than just the rolling power outages. You know, a few shelves get knocked over, a couple of jam sandwiches fall off tables, that sort of thing. Yet they were back up and working less than two hours later. You know, I wouldn’t have begrudged them to have taken a day or two off, but I guess what the Japanese want more than anything else right now is to simply return back to regular work. It’s nice to see the earthquake hasn’t effected the quality of their animation though =D

OK, you got me

Credit where credit is due. I enjoyed this episode of Bakuman quite a bit. I got sucked in all too easily by the rolling dates and the gradual release of each mangakas one shots. It’s such an incredibly simple method to induce tension, and I’m rather ashamed of myself for falling for it with such predictability. But it worked because there were so many different stories riding on this. The one I found the most interesting of the lot was the editors battle for their prodigies mangakas, eavesdropping on their reactions. I would love if they actually explored the side of the editors more. It’s hilarious to watch how protective they get over their star authors. They’re like a bunch of dads arguing over whose son could beat the other in a fight.

I, like, totally ship these two

Honestly, once you get out sight of the main characters and their girlfriends, the characters in Bakuman are a rather cool bunch. I’ve sang the praises of Hattori many times over. Nizuma is cool simply for how bizarre he is. Aoki is the only female character I give a shit about, if only because I love how Nakai acts around her. Poor guy, I really want to see him succeed at something in his depressing life, beyond resembling a frog when he shaves. I like how in his mind Aoki’s boobs grow several times larger than normal. It’s a bit of a strange relationship given the age gap, but I would honestly like nothing more than for them to get together. Honestly though, I’d settle for their manga simply beating Ashirogi Muto’s piece of shit. Anything for those two to crash and burn so hopefully the next season won’t focus on them at all.

Koogy

Koogy is a pretty cool guy eh. Draws pretentious manga and doesn’t afraid of anything.

For someone who claims to not visit 4chan, you’re awfully familiar with their memes…

“And doesn’t afraid of anything” has been an internet-at-large meme for ages.

As if I could be part of anime fandom and not get bombarded with memes anyway

I dropped Bakuman at episode 13, but your comments on the past few episodes have piqued my curiosity again. Adding in more mangakas and focusing on them more than the boring (non) relationship tension sounds interesting. Would you recommend the second half of the series as generally worthwhile?

Eh, not really. The animation quality has taken a massive dip and Mashiro has become even more insufferable since. It kinda balances out, what with more mangaka and less romance, but it’s still pretty much the same show

It was effective for an episode of Bakuman. This could mean that they are capable of making an entertaining series out of this material for season two.

Regarding Aoki, she is only more interesting than the others because they have been so annoying. Really, at this point I would say Shuujin’s girl (the one with the thing growing out of the top of her head) is the most interesting and HUMAN of the females that have been shown. That is because they have shown that she has feelings, and doubts, and also cares for her friends, and does things like cheer them on. I doubt Aoki CAN care about another person. She seems completely self-centered, and apparently has no interests outside of her own manga.

And a totally self-centred bitch is exactly what Bakuman needed! I like her precisely because of that. She does have doubts too, such as the scene where she redrew her manga to have more swearing and poop jokes in

Ah, how nice. I smirked when that arrogant looking women feeled a little insecure about her creation.

I enjoyed this episode, too. The editors are my favorite part. I laughed out loud when Nakai and Aoki’s editor puffed out his chest after getting the early results.

if their worried about weekly manga, why not just write for a monthly serialization

The producers probably just hoped nobody would realize this fact, so they could use it as a lifesaver at some kind of the plot.

Seeing how Nizuma is careless as always makes it worth to watch every episode. Oh, and also Nakais ‘condition’ around Aoki.
