A 4-koma adaptation about a bunch of high schoolers doing absolutely nothing. So would you believe me when I said this was way better than expected and flipped my world view, bringing on what could potentially be the second coming of Azuman-pfft no, Acchi Kocchi is hideously boring.
Here’s a few traits of Acchi Kocchi that should give you an indication of what kind of show it is. Out of the 6 characters introduced in this episode, two of them add ‘desu~’ to the end of everything they say. Characters slip into super-deformed facial expressions as a replacement for actual humour. Characters randomly sprout cat ears when they’re trying to look cute. The teacher character gets depressed because she’s old and doesn’t have a boyfriend. For something that’s supposed to be a comedy, not a single joke worked. Forget making me laugh, the corners of my mouth didn’t even raise in a slight grin. This is coming from someone who professes to be a fan of Japanese comedy.
There’s really not an awful lot to say about this. For anyone who has read my blog for any period of time, my reaction should come at no surprise. Call it banging my head off a brick wall, but one of these days they’ll make a 4-koma adaptation I actually like, something in the vein of Azumanga once again. But it has been a pretty fruitless quest. The last 4-koma adaptation I watched more than one episode of, and probably my ‘favourite’ of the past few years, was K-ON! That’s really not saying much.
What’s probably the most shocking part about my reaction to Acchi Kocchi was how mellow it was. Maybe it was because the flow between jokes was far better handled that most. Maybe it’s because it was mainly going for cuteness, so the failure of the jokes was lessened. Maybe because it had a neat aesthetic. More likely is that years of watching first episodes of these series have tired me out, so I’m no longer capable of feeling much hatred towards the nothingness of these sorts of series. I certainly have far more furor in my tank for Accel World than this.
Acchi Kocchi is a thing that exists. You might like it if you like these sorts of things. I wouldn’t know. Then again, if you are the kind of person who likes these sorts of things, then you probably don’t read my blog.

“Acchi Kocchi is a thing that exists.”
That’s really the nicest thing you can say about this show. There’s just nothing to it at all. I really don’t understand how people can enjoy something like this, but each to their own, I guess.
Hey man, let me tell you, growing old without a girlfriend really sucks. We can’t all date Miss. Celibacy after all.
It appears to be going for a Lucky Star clone.
I’m going to give it some time. When Lucky Star first aired I dropped it because it was too slow. That was a mistake so this one gets some credit.
I believe I made a correct decision not watching more Lucky Star. I still have nightmares about what I did watch
Say, Scamp-chan, which end of a chocolate cornet do you start from?
ARRGGHH NOOOO IT’S ALL COMING BACK TO MEEEEEEEEEE
I read your blog.
Dammit!
Hey fancy that, so do I
After 10 minutes the visuals started crapping out. Granted, this turned out to be an issue my media player, but I took it as a good enough sign to quit. Thanks CCCP, you’re a godsend as usual!
This was easily one of the worst shows I have seen. It certainly was the most cliché-ridden show I have ever seen. I have taken shit for thinking that some shows are okay when they are extremely generic, but do that genre well. This was more generic than I can stand.
NOOOO, you got my hopes up and then destroyed them in two words. How could you do that :( Sniff, Sniff I was hopeful, this would be funny. Sniff, Sniff
dropped after 6 minutes. nuff said.
