I didn’t watch Rokka, but Kyokai no Kanata had the worst ending that I have ever seen. It’s hard to imagine anything topping that.

Working!! also had a shitty ending. This was the last season of Working!! and the main couple didn’t get together. Huge letdown. I was really pissed off.

    Speaking of lingerie. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YmpDp2Lae6U

Clearly you haven’t watched Druaga no Tou. That ending is so bad it’s funny.

I wouldn’t actually recommend anyone watch that crap show though.

TOWER OF DRUAGA!!!! Man it has a super easy non-weeb name too provided by the original author.

Rokka beats everything for worst ending still

About Nashetania motivation: If you go back to the speech Nashetania gives in episode 2, about giving “the feeling of living without fear” to everyone, which I guess is what her ultimate plan boils down to (I sort of have a sneaking feeling that the fiends helped her become the Saint of Blades, which might serve as more of a reason for her deciding to go this route). I guessed Nashetania was the seventh based on that speech, but I got the reason wrong. Dunno how she pulled off the body swap, or if that even was a body swap (Goldof was by her side the whole time). Agree with the rest, adding another Brave invalidated every innocent verdict made; not to mention it paints the fiends as idiots for pitting two assets in a Left Hand vs Right Hand situation.

Yeah there may be more I missed or forgot about in the early scenes with Nashetania. I thought she was the 7th too based on completely different logic.

Found myself enjoying your argument of how endearing each of your crappy generic harem mecha anime are. Like an fight over best girl ever but with the lack of conviction. Good Work. Tsubasa is best girl!

One Punch Man anime seemed a whole lot more enjoyable than the manga too. I noticed how lethargic Saitama was in the manga due to how lazily drawn he is but the movements and voice acting sold that a lot better.

I think OPM is a story where the enjoyment comes how from the villains and the side characters react to just how absurd the main character is. Might be funnier if there was less focus on Saitama and the the story was told from the perspective of the villains or the sidekick. A Record of the Savior Saitama.

Ah yes, all the other monogatari girls doesn’t hold a candle to Hanekawa Tsubasa.

Although, one of my favorite anime scenes ever was when hitagi brought arararagi to watch the stars on a mountain somewhere back in the first season.

What’s your favorite, “It’s so anime” anime? What does that description mean to you?

For me it’s Code Geass and I think of it like a checklist. There’s a load of anime-isms in this show that it seems to overflow with them. High school antics, mysterious girl gives guy powers, mechas, bishounens, fanservice, mascot character, nonspecific brown person, no nipples, loli, BUTTS, maids, samurai, multiple colorful characters with their singular traits, teenage angst, etc.

Baka and Test is another one. I love that show. I remember that it made me laugh out loud quite a bit.

Can’t think of anything that tops Code Geass, although Kill la Kill is pretty great/dumb

The problem with the final Rokka revelation regarding who the seventh was is the fact that nothing really from the middle episodes had a thing to do with leading up to said revelation. The plot was just chasing red herrings till the last minute.

Yeah I suppose you are onto something. It might mean more if the story continued, but then they had Cow Girl which invalidated all the red herring chasing and puts us right back at square 1.

Now here’s Scamp’s most well kept secret: he claims to court tsundere Senjougahara. Yet, his mal tsundere article had no mention on the likes of heavenly being. He doesn’t want the greater world to know of Senjougahara. Yet, in privacy of his blog and twitter likeness, he detests the likeness of Hanekawa and threatens to send thus believers to the roundness of the Sun. In all true that is obvious, Scamp is two-timing the goddesses of his infatuation and, by all means, embodies the true spirit of a tsundere.

Because Senjogahara isn’t a tsundere. She says she is, but a tsundere would never actually admit to being a tsundere. She puts on airs but is completely open about her affection. Honestly she’s closer to yandere than tsundere.

A tsundere would definitely use such tactic to alleviate such suspicion of being a tsundere. A yandere would never hide behind the portrait of a tsundere.

I made the mistake of visiting the Rokka wiki while it was airing (mistake because they spoil the fake in the second sentence of the character’s page without warning and while checking for confirmation just now it spoils the identity of the other fake without warning, too) and it said that that’s the real princess, just fused with a fiend.

Yeah, I never thought she was some body-swapped fiend or whatever. It seemed she was just a human princess that somehow worked with the fiends to get fiend powers.

I was much more fine with the Rokka ending than most I suppose. Mystery shows have to thread a balance between giving the viewer too much and giving too little. I actually think Rokka did well in this regard. It gave plenty of clues about Nashetania, but also made you suspect most of the other characters. I saw discussions each week with people predicting pretty much every character except maybe Chamot. I think that counts as a success. It isn’t supposed to be too obvious.

Now as for the cow. That was really stupid. I couldn’t believe it. I’m somewhat reassured though because a friend of mine who has read the light novels tells me that it’s not really what we think. It doesn’t play out how you’d expect. I’m not really sure how true that is, but it probably doesn’t matter. Rokka tanked in BD sales so we won’t get another season. Now we’re left with a series ending that was tainted by something that should have been saved for a potential season 2 episode 1.

  • […] Now with improved spoiler warnings! In our latest podcast episode, myself and Scamp (of The Cart Driver) wrap up Summer 2015 with a discussion of the finales of Rokka – Braves of the Six Flowers, Gakkou-Gurashi, and Himouto! Umaru-chan, among others. We then move on to the new shows, and manage to squeeze in a dash of Endless Eight, anime lingerie, and some gushing over Monogatari girls (but that latter bit is all his). I also manage to bring up Asura Cryin’. The podcast is available to stream or as a DDL here. […]
