Not strictly my anniversary. Technically it should be on the 6th July. Actually if we’re being accurate, the birthday of The Cart Driver as a website is on Christmas day 2009, rather than the day I happened to start blogging at Bokutachi no Blog. Heck, the real date I started blogging is sometime towards the end of April or early May back in 2008, which is when I started writing at some random Livejournal site. The date is arbitrary anyway, it’s just a neat excuse for me to post a general update on the state of affairs here.
As you may have noticed if you read the blog in any form other than solely through a feed reader, the site design has gone through a few changes. The posts are wider, the comments work properly, everything has borders, the tags are more noticeable rather than just being the string of ALL CAPS that they used to be. Cheers to Gargron (I believe he’s calling himself after his real name Eugen from now on, but to me he’ll always be Gargron) for doing all the work for me.
The next monthly roundup will be my last one. I’ve realised that they’re fairly useless for analysis or reviewing purposes, because I don’t have enough space to properly explain myself. They’re too much raw taste with not enough backing up, and turns into literally me just going “I like this more than this more than this more than this” and so on. There was also the issue that I sometimes put off writing about a currently airing anime because I’d just write it in my monthly roundup, but then I wouldn’t have enough space to fully expand on my point. On the other end of the spectrum, when I did write about currently airing anime, the monthly roundup would just be me rehashing those same points again. Shame to see them go, and I’m sure many of you liked them, but I can’t really justify having them anymore. If you’re really that desperate to know how much I like currently airing anime, I recommend just using my MAL account you creepy stalker you.
As you can probably tell, reaching my 4 year anniversary really isn’t as big a deal for me as it was when I made it to three years. Last year was mainly a stabilising period. It was about realising the extent to my abilities, cutting off fat and figuring out exactly the way I like to write. This meant my posts started to turn a bit formulaic, but being consistent meant I could get really good at that style of writing. I’ve reached the zenith of what I’m capable of achieving in my current state. It’s time for The Cart Driver to move onto the next stage of its evolution. Tomorrow marks the new dawn at this most holy and sacred of sites.

I find your chibi terribad videos hilarious. Please never stop. I honestly have not laughed that hard at Youtube videos. As for your anniversary, congrats! 4 years is an eternity in internet time. I’m glad I’ve been able to marginally collaborate with you and talk with you about anime. You always make terribad fun and my friends always ask me to get “that Irish-sounding guy” on FAPcast more often. Here’s to 4 more!
I’m secretly training up by appearing on other peoples podcasts so eventually I can crush them all with my own.
…oh btw, that isn’t the big change. Just thought I should point that out. That one is much further down my Master Plan
Congratulations, Kilt Potato.
I like your monthly roundups. I don’t like your chibi videos. I like your blog so whatever
four more years
Is a kilt potato slang for an Irish bloke?
It’s an endearing insult.
Is bloke a bad term? It sounds like one, you bloke. Your mother is a bloke too.
Wahey, on towards the next years!
Congrats and enjoy!
Congrats! Shame to see the monthly round up go; the scores always leave a great avenue for discussion but I understand the reasoning.
Suzaku in that sidebar picture is a bit terrifying.
It’s one of those pics I saved years ago but never knew where I got it from and could never find a use for it.
Totally appropriate.
Damnit but the monthly roundups are the best part >:|
Are you gunna replace them with something else? Maybe with a blanket review on a series once you finish/drop?
Haven’t decided yet. I recognise their value in a catch-up sort of way, but I wasn’t happy with the format I was using
Wait, the posts were even smaller before? Impossibru.
The real question is when we’ll be seeing the Scamp Andy Warhol prints and witty shirts with ‘But what about the cart driver?’ on.
Damn, I can’t even remember how I found this blog. Some guy on /a/ bitching about you or something maybe? Anyways, The Cart Driver and Bakacast are the only anime blogs I follow and unless something as fantastic pops up out of the blue, I doubt that will change. My only worry is that you might become so good that you will become fated to die young after a short period of being God.
I’d wear a “But what about the Cart Driver” t-shirt. Maybe I should start selling them to help fund the hosting. Or chibi scamp plushies. Anyone?
I’m not fated to die young because, for anime blogs, 4 years is already pretty effing old. Most don’t last 3. Also lol people bitching about me on /a/. I’ve seen that a few times, and it’s almost always about taste. Because that’s all /a/ seems to talk about
I remember when a load of people flooded here when you made that NoitaminA troll. Fantastic. Still, /a/ is pretty fun as long as it isn’t summer and the anime season is at least adequate (oh god I have no life – wait, anime took that from me already). Speaking of which, are you planning to participate in the next part of /a/ sings? The next song is to be one of the themes from Aquarion EVOL and it’s going to be fun.
Also you never know. Maybe you’ll become some kind of anime blog prog rocker singing your reviews and die from getting attacked by a crazed moe enthusiast trying to cut your nose off after a concert.
I don’t know if you saw my last comment from the previous article but I know you didn’t think Kingdom would get subbed, yet the first three episodes are now out being handled by A-Destiny. I’d be rather interested to see what you think of it. Brace yourself for the CGI.
Maybe it was because chartfag linked here. That’s how I found this blog.
Oh yeah, that was it. Even though there are other people making charts, I still kinda miss Chartfag.
Bah, my prediction goes down the drain.
Glad for it though,
it doesn’t feel like I’ve been stalking your blog this long though :(.
I shall wave goodbye to your monthly roundups, but I demand you caption all your pictures from now on to make up for cutting off my monthly dosage.
yes i demand captions in my screencaps as well
#YESWECANEMPERORJ
Suzaku as Unit 01 is distracting me from my sadness over the loss of monthly roundups.
And here’s to another 4 years of terrible anime, blog posts filled to the brim with words of disgust for the bad, words of pure elation for the good, and more people telling you how your taste in anime sucks and how big of a hatter you are.
I hope you’re up for it
Four years? – you so old! (actually feels nice to say that to someone else for a change).
Congrats & stuff, looking forward to seeing what your Master Plan for Blogosphere Domination is.
Certainly one of my favorite bloggers on scene. Glad to see that you’ve reached a point where you’re comfortable with your output and ability as a writer, which is just wonderful to achieve. I’ve been a reader for a little less than a year now, and although I often disagree with your opinions, your posts keep me interested, and I enjoy sharing your ideas. You’ve definitely inspired me to become a more active member of the anisphere as well, so keep up the great work, brah.
As for your Monthly Roundups: I like reading your opinions on the current anime of the season, so I’ll be a bit sad to see them go, but maybe this will allow you write more episodics? Or instead, perhaps you’ll adopt some sort of “mid-season review” format of post which seem to be all the rage now. Eh, whatever you do, I wish you the best of luck.
Not sure what I’ll do, but I’m sure my desire to write about everything I watch will lead me to come up with something
Still waiting for any comments regarding A&C. :) I’ll answer any questions, if you have any, folks!
Why don’t you do just do a seasonly roundup? It’d be good for summarizing your thoughts on that season’s anime.
That’s basically the same though, which doesn’t get rid of the problem the monthly roundups had
Congratz~ =D
I think the monthly roundup was interesting, but it only scratches the surface. Have you considered doing series review? At the end of a season, do a review for each of the series you watched. I think that would provide better focus on what you want to convey.
I’ve been doing series reviews of currently airing anime more and more as time goes on. I’ll probably just do more of them
Your lead picture, it scarred me for life.
Wohoo, congratulations Master Scamp! May you have many more and may you continue to enlighten the blogosphere with your excellent posts/fart jokes!
So everything has to involve that Yuno face now. I like where this is going.
Congrats on four years! Here’s to many more. Others have mentioned it, but I also have to say I’ll miss the monthly round-ups, especially the picture captions.
Four Years = A lifetime for Anime Blogs (Congrats)
Especially since as you pointed out to another commenter, blogs tend to die in their second year. Though actually, we had a blog die sometime after the tourney and one go on hiatus–*will stop thinking negative thoughts*
Also…um…am I the first to comment and say I noticed you added an Evangelion/Geass crossover picture
Followed you for for years and ready for more (mostly lurking) keep it up scamp.
Congrats on four years! Sorry to see the monthly round-ups go, but hope you still do your season previews and roundups. Looking forward to your changes and some new Teribad!
Congrats on your four years ^_^
I guess the first time I read your blog was when an acquaintance linked on twitter your post about Fractale. Since then I’m always reading your posts (and watching your terribad anime reviews), and the comment section always have some nice discussion.
And yeah, I’ll miss the roundups. They were responsible for the good discussion on the comments too. But do as you prefer.
Btw, going a bit off-topic, I’m looking for your final thoughts on Aquarion EVOL.
