12 Days of Anime #1: Trigger’s hello to the world

There was a huge amount of hype behind Trigger. Imaishi’s studio set up with all the crew that made Gurren Lagann and Panty and Stocking with him, leaving Gainax with nobody of worth left. What would their first series be? How would they introduce themselves to the world? Not through Little Witch Academia, that government funded single episode project. No I mean a proper series with multiple episodes and the like. What sort of masterpiece of animation would Imaishi and co come out with first? When it finally did come out, it really did leave its impact and inflated my expectations for Trigger even further for everything else that would come after it. That anime was…

inferno copuINFERNO COP

I’m only half-joking here too. For all the sakuga-porn on display in Kill la Kill, my favourite bits of that show are the parts where its animation most resembles Inferno Cop. When the trap master puts on the school uniform and suddenly can’t move, transforming into a static Inferno Cop character. Long may Trigger continue the fine tradition set out by Inferno Cop.

First of all, Merry Christmas Everybody! Hope you all are having/planning to have a good time with your family.

I was seriously blown away by Kill la Kill’s first episode. Those first five minutes…damn. Of course, I wouldn’t have known this studio had the people behind Gurren Lagann in it if it weren’t for this blog. But the first episode would have been enough to convince me there was talent behind this show. Here’s to hoping they have success in all their future endeavors.

We watched this show in my anime club shortly after it came out. I had everyone sit through the 10 min of credits at the end of the last episode and everything
